Good news - Jonathan Wallace is playing with Bayern Munich again.
Bad news - he's teammates with Ben Hansbrough.

DaJuan is with the best team and the highest paid of all the HOYAs playing in Europe. Sometimes we forget that he was a great contributor while on the hilltop.

Neither Jon nor DaJuan were in the class of 2011.
Perhaps it would be better to relabel this thread, as well as track down the current whereabouts of Ruben (he seems to be between teams at the moment), Victor Samnick, and the other Hoyas who have been successfully banging away in the European pros to varying degrees of success for some time now.

Is he playing in Italy because of the lock out or because he didnt get a contract with Detroit?

I'd say it would have been unlikely he would have been on a NBA roster this year strike or no strike.

Courtesy translation of the Gazzetta article (I had too much free time on hand this evening)
Summers, a character out of a film looking for a happy ending in Siena
The American, ex Detroit Piston: “A future in movies? Maybe as an actor. I have been struck by the spirit of my teammates, they are all positive and the staff are phenomenal”
Dajuan Summers isn’t an American on short-time loan. He’s here because of the lockout, but he won’t have to pack his bags in a hurry when the NBA lockout ends: Five-time consecutive defending Italian champion Montepaschi have signed him to a two-year contract, to acquire with him the physical toughness needed to aim for the Euroleague title, knowing that in the (Italian) championship he will also be able to make the difference as a power forward. The ex Georgetown star, who lost his luster during an opaque (anonymous) two-year stint in Detroit, but is still only 23 years old, needed a change of atmosphere to rise again. The athleticism and talent which he carries along with his 110kg and 203cm frame could also have an impact on the Serie A: if he shows on the court the potential that he has shown in flashes, he could prove to be a kind of player that has never existed before in Italy.
Summers, would you have come to Europe even if the NBA season were to begin? “It’s hard to say. The truth is that there is a lockout, I don’t think about how things could have gone differently. How will it end? Who knows. It could last all year, or maybe just until December-January. What’s certain is that we are very far from an agreement”.
In your future do you see Europe or the NBA? “Both. I know that here I could have a great career, developing my game: the way you work and train here is very different, in my opinion better. But I think that all players, even here, ultimately aim to play in the NBA”.
Why Siena? “Siena is one of the most organized clubs in Europe. I did my homework and I saw that they have been to the Final Four, they have been Italian Champions five years in a row. When they sought me, I thought it would be a good opportunity for me and my career”.
What didn’t work in Detroit? “I didn’t have enough opportunities and consistent playing time to show all the things that I can do, I was able to show some things the few times when I had the opportunity to play more”.
During the confusing situation with the Pistons, you stood out especially for your maturity, even though you were one of the younger players “Like my dad, I want to do all that’s possible to be a good example for my son, DaJuan Jr, who is here in Siena with me and my partner, and for the many kids who look up to basketball players as models. So (I want to) always do the right thing and be positive”.
Your maturity was acquired during your time at Georgetown?(Literally “This maturity depends on the structure/set up received at Georgetown?”) Definitely. And also because of my roots: I grew up in Baltimore, a rough city, and my mother grew me up by herself and also my brother and sister; therefore since I’ve been a little kid I have always had a lot of responsibility which most kids wouldn’t have had”.
Your playing both forward positions brings to Siena an added dimension which had been missing It will be useful. I have spoken about it with (coach) Banchi at the beginning of training and he expressed the possibility that I may play both near and far from the basket. I will need the pre-season to work on it well”.
What does Summers do off the court? “I adore movies and music, Jay Z, Kanye West, 50 Cent and R n’ B singers like Usher, R.Kelly…I love all movies except horror. A future in cinema? Maybe acting, if I will have the opportunity”.
What did you know about Italy before arriving? “Great food. And the fashion: Prada, Gucci…I know the Euroleague is the second most important tournament in the world after the NBA, I have followed ex mates who play in Europe such as Malcolm Delaney and Austin Freeman. I have also spoken to Hawkins (David), who told me that I was going to arrive in a great team”.
What have you found? It’s nice here. I have been to Florence, I have been to the surrounding areas. I have found a more simple lifestyle and a better work/training environment compared to the one I had during the past couple years, so I will surely be more prepared for the beginning of the season”.
What about on the court? “I have been struck by the spirit of my teammates. They are all positive, ready to work every day. The staff is awesome, the way they follow you, the attention to taking care of your body. It will be a great season: we are looking at winning the sixth consecutive title. Also because I don’t want to fare worse than my predecessors!”.

If this were any other week, this part of the interview might cause an instant message board explosion! Thanks for translating this. I wish Dejuan the best with Siena... he was a key contributor during our Final Four run... That said - maturity? Wish we saw more of it during his junior season....

Munich also added Ben Hansborough to their roster this season. That could prove to be one ridiculously potent backcourt.

Does anyone know how the various European leagues stack up against each other. Is Germany's top league one of the premier European leagues?
