Who could have imagined such a thing??
...
I don't have a link, but they just covered this story on the local show. Aparrently, the commissioner has ruled that Tyrelle Pryor is eligible for the supplemental draft -- which has already been suspended once thusfar, specifically for Pryor. But even though he is eligible for the draft, he must still fulfill his 5 game suspension the NCAA levied on him.
Huh???
His college suspension must be serverd in the NFL, but if they had ruled him ineligible for taking benefits then he would be immediately eligible for the supplemental draft without such baggage. That's certainly an odd ruling.
Also, does that mean that the Miami Dolphins have to sit Reggie Bush for some number of games? What about all of the Miami Hurricane players that confirmed their involvement with SHapiro? Are they now ineligible and for how long?
That is just a silly ruling. I don't think the commisioner thought it through very well. I'm sure that his reasoning is that he doesn't want college players who still have eligibility remaining to use the NFL as a way to escape penalty. But even that logic is flawed. First off, most rookies don't exactly get much game time in the first five games anyway -- especially quarterbacks. Now I know there's much talk of Pryor playing another position, but in any case, given his late arrival at whatever camp selects him, I doubt he will make a significant impact in the first 5 games anyhow.
It should at least hit him in the pocketbook though. I think when you are suspended, you lose a pro-rated portion of your salary. And if I remember correctly, that goes into a special fund which ends up being used for charitable events. But even so, does this ruling make much sense to you guys?
