Elvado, you still have a bookie? That sure takes me back. I thought bookies had gone the way of the dodo.

The BCS has changed when the national championship matchup weren't the top two teams in the polls. This year that is the matchup.

Michael Floyd making a "business decision" certainly didn't help things at all. WTH is he not on the field? Gotta be tougher then that.
BTW--all this game did was make certain that FSU will go into next year overrated for about the 10th year in a row. They are the Oklahoma of the South.

So I heard that Perry Jones led the Baylor Bears back from a 14 point deficit to defeat Lorenzo Romar's Washington Huskies.
Wait, what?

"Beamer Ball" strikes again. When will announcers point out how many times Vtech's special teams kill them in big games? Roughing the punter, missed FG's, etc.....this ALWAYS happens to Beamer in big games and yet when they block a few kicks against James Madison, they'll show the highlights clockwork and hype Beamer's special teams.
As for Michigan--Brady Hoke is one helluva coach and unlike his moronic predecessor Rich Rodriguez, Hoke and his staff adjusted to what they had instead of forcing a system on talent that doesn't fit. Greg Mattison's work with a horrificly awful defense prior to his arrival is equally impressive, and just happy for Michigan fans who had to sit through the Rich Rod error.
As for the "controversy"--I didn't think Coale caught the ball in bounds, but I will say that BCS just asking for a mess when they allow the incompetent and disasterous crew led by Jay "Beaker" Strichertz to officiate a high level game. This is what Pac 12 fans have to put up with on a weekly basis and he's known around league for being a complete embarrassment. How he keeps his job? I always think of scene from Casino where DeNiro is "encouraged" to keep the kid who is a complete idiot on the floor due to being a relative of a high ranking Nevada politician. When he doesn't--all hell breaks loose for DeNiro and made guys. Strichertz has to know someone high up because he and his evil sidejudge "Burt" are awful.

Yeah, I don't think that the explanation given regarding the "controversy" was particularly useful. They announced that the receiver didn't control the ball, but he more clearly controlled it than the DB on Robinson's interception which they upheld. Watching it the only reasonable way to overturn the call in OT was to say he didn't have possession in bounds. Seemed to me that when he established control he then landed half in and half out. Right call ultimately, but the crew didn't help their cause by not negating it because he didn't establish control in bounds.

It looked to me like he had control of the ball and he elbow, which hit the ground in bounds, was the first part of his body to hit the ground. I thought it was a terrible call.

I don't even really know what the rule is. Is it the first molecule to touch the ground that counts? That doesn't seem to be true with feet -- if part of the foot hits first (say the heel) then the toe hits it is considered out of bounds, right? What's the rule with the arm? Seems to me the lower arm close to the elbow hit first and in bounds but then the rest of the lower arm hit out of bounds.

All I can say is that I feel really bad for Stanford's freshman kicker. That was a pretty bad choke job. Tough way to end the season (and the Andrew Luck era) if you're a Stanford fan. I think two of their offensive linemen have already declared for the draft. Then again, remember how John Elway's career ended at Stanford? Hopefully this guy uses his remaining three years of eligibility as motivation to atone for this.

I heard that former head of NFL officiating explain that very rule during a game on NFL Redzone earlier this season. He said that they are instructed to specifically consider the sole of the foot as a unique entity and that in issues regarding the sole of the foot, any part of the sole that touches the ground in a single step, is considered to have hit at same instant. In that particular case, he was distinguishing between an ankle touching, thereby making the runner down by contact at that point.

Okay, so does that apply to the arm, and how much of the arm is considered equivalent to a single "sole"?

Interesting because same guy is overseeing Pac 12 officiating which "Beaker" Strichertz is consistently the most offensive official of not enforcing rules and not allowing players to decide games that exists.

So happy to see Pittsburgh getting blasted in both football and basketball. On New Year's day, I accompanied my friend to her friend's dinner/football party. Theirs was a Pitt household. It took all the self control I could muster to restrain from unloading on the traitors. Plus, the ribs were a little tough, the mac and cheese too runny, the string beans unseasoned, and that was the worst excuse for black eyed peas I had ever tasted, though the carrots and chicken were fine. I had to keep reminding myself I was a guest in these people's home! At least they were they were really nice people.

Love the culinary critique But what else would you expect from PITT fans. Not to mention, you hail from Nawlins, where the dining experience is revered! I think there's a phrase in the Bible - Luke 23:34 - that describes your experience and how you handled it: Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.

One game remaining, but the rest are already forgettable. As noted from Twitter: "14 of 35 bowls failed to outdraw the attendance of the Texas 4A DII state championship game (43,396)."
That's not the 5A game, that's the 4A game!
