Vic was the first (only?) freshmen to win MVP of the Big East Tourney. After the disappointment of that game and Ray Allen's lucky shot, I was cheered up by watching the awards presentation. As they began to announce the MVP, Ray Allen got up and started to walk on the court. It was pretty great to watch him have to turn around and try to play it off when they called Victor Page.

Wow, life can be a mystery. One day you're on top of the world and the next, the world's on top of you.
Hopefully he can one day turn it around, I feel for him.

This is tough to look at. Victor might be the greatest lost talent to ever play at GU. He was a fearless player who demanded the ball when the game was on the line (and he often delivered). That climb-the-ladder runner was his trademark. People sometimes forget that he was a high-risk proposition when JTII recruited him -- very tough upbringing, and wasn't big on listening to advice. I'm guessing nearly everyone in the GU community is rooting for him, as they should. But he may be beyond repair at this point.

I don't think anyone forgets that Victor was a "high risk" proposition. And, unless you know him personally, the "beyond repair" comment is just moronic. If you are personal friends with him, I have an entirely different take on that remark and please accept my apology. I don't know the guy personally but I loved watching him play. I've said this before on the board but I feel like it bears repeating. Why hasn't he been brought back into the fold? Who better to tell kids about how life can turn on a dime than Victor? Who better to tell ANY student how the opportunity for a solid education should be taken seriously? He clearly still follows the program and it looks from the outside like he'd like to be involved in some capacity.
I like when GU takes a chance on high risk kids with solid character. I don't know if the character part is Victor or not. Again, I don't know him. However, I think GU could do a lot of good by reaching out to some of the guys that go off the rails a bit after they leave the Hilltop. High risk doesn't necessarily change because you get an education (or in Victor's case, leave early). Lifelong patterns don't just change all of a sudden. If you sign a "high risk" kid which GU has in the past, it's usually the University that gets the better end of the deal. While that's OK I guess, I feel like more should be done for these guys. As an outsider, it feels like being a Hoya is a bit of a pseudo-vacation for some of these guys from the complications and miseries of their real lives that they end up falling back into after school is in the rearview. I realize it's not Georgetown's responsibility to fix people's lives but it seems to me that there's a moral responsibility if you're going to sell these guys on the possiblity of a better life to actually follow up with the guys that don't get it right away that they really can change their lives for the better.
I share everyone's hopes that Victor works everything out. And, especially in this case, I hope that Georgetown takes advantage once again of all that Victor has to offer. Life experience, good or bad, can have immense impact and value to kids getting ready to enter into the real world.

That's a tough one. I've seen him around from time to time (mainly Georgia Avenue/Petworth Area) riding a bike sometimes and everytime i see him he has something going on (an arm splint, finger bandaged... of course, the eye patch, etc.). And he's usually with guys who are known around to have shady situations going on. This doesn't mean Vic is involved in such, but bring him into the fold? I think it'd be a good idea for Vic to take it upon himself to "create a fold" whereby maybe he can sponsor a camp or go to playgrounds and teach, or book time at schools to discuss, or write a book on his experience.... Once the effort is shown, GU may get involved. You don't have to have GU involved to create your own opportunity to give back.

maybe his circumstances warrant him not being brought back at this point. Maybe he doesn't want to be back. If he is lunchin', and I've heard he is, then being brought back into the mix is not an option at this point. I hope he gets his life together, but he has to get it together first. Honestly, what does he have to offer the program at this point?
