Because it's unwarranted and puts too much pressure on the kid. When you build him up so much and he ends up being Nate Lubick, or worse, then he'll be unfairly criticized. He is what he is. A last minute recruit who is probably the 5th most talented kid we're bringing in this year. Yes, I am sure the son of Alonzo Mourning is unfamiliar with unfair expectations. The pressure put on by some over excited comments (which never even occurred) on a message board will far exceed anything he has faced before. Never even occurred? Read through this thread again, champ.

Never understood why you were so negative in this thread POD.. What's the big deal if folks get overly excited about a kid? Because it's unwarranted and puts too much pressure on the kid. When you build him up so much and he ends up being Nate Lubick, or worse, then he'll be unfairly criticized. He is what he is. A last minute recruit who is probably the 5th most talented kid we're bringing in this year. I'll be shocked if Hoya fans are hard on Trey if he doesn't develop, this is a win/win to me..

Great get for the Hoyas. By the time this kid is an upperclassman, we are going to be thrilled to have him.
Love that Trey kept it in the family!

Never even occurred? Read through this thread again, champ. Nope, haven't seen any unrealistic expectations on Trey since deciding to go to Georgetown. And the point still stands, it wouldn't effect him either way, it's dealt with far worse in his life I am sure. And no, the son of Alonzo Mourning will never be regarded the same as Nate, regardless of performance. So no need to worry there.

Any word yet if he is walking on? I would hate to lose a scholarship for him. What does this statement mean? Trey is a 3 star recruit not a 1 star. The same as Tre Campbell and Jabril. Trey was seriously recruited by Duke and Florida and he deserves to be treated the same as any other recruit that the staff has gotten to commit. I know that Trey isn't his father but the kid can play and we should feel happy to have him on board. Especially after seeing a year in which Nate and Hop wouldn't shoot a 15 ftr to save there lives. Trey can shoot and by his soph year he will be a real contributor.........

This is great. He is a Hoya. If he develops into a really good player, it is a huge bonus. The spectre of him being great for someone else is much worse than him being so so for us.
That said, I believe he will be a good solid rotation guy.

This is good for the school and the kid. Of course if he plays poorly he will be criticized and that is what the coaches, the family, the fans and the player should want. He should be just another player on the team, with no special consideration for his bloodlines. That said, the expectations should be consistent with those of players at similar stages coming into the program. I do not think that the Hoya program has ever been at a stage where it did not have room for a so-called 3 star player with length and some athleticism. Besides, the use of 3 star or 4 star or "rankings" is completely out of control. Players develop differently. What they are as high school seniors means nothing with respect to what they might become in 4 years.

It's just great to see the tradition that is associated with Georgetown and the level of respect and commitment that the former players and their family have for the school and the coach.
welcome, Trey!

Just tweeted: @treyhardentnp: headed to the hilltop #hoyasaxa Not upset about it, but I hope expectations are tempered. Don't worry. I don't expect him to be an All American until his sophomore year.

If ever there was a kid to take a flyer on, it's this one due to the upside and obvious bloodlines. Can you imagine if he had gone somewhere else what this board would have been like? Honestly if he doesn't end up contributing on the court, so what, but I do think he ends up contributing when all is said and done. Doesn't mean he's a starter, but we remember what the team did when we had a former HOF son coming off the bench

Congrats to Trey, Zo and family! It's great to have a member of the Hoya family on board. I'm sure that he will be a proud Hoya and play like it. I like that we have another body to throw out at C for next season. After what happened this season, and losing C/PF Moses and Nate (and Caprio ) , who knows what will happen with Josh or whether Hops will continue to be a foul machine or if Hayes will be ready for 15+ mins. It's good to have another option other than having to insert White or Copeland at C. Hit the weights, get mean, and study family tapes. We'll need someone to protect the rim, rebound and score the occasional layup.
