I wouldn't take this too seriously, but it's from less than a month ago and claims that Georgetown is NOT going to offer: "Trey Mourning (6-9, 210, Miami, FL Ransom Everglades): Yes, the name does sound familiar and yes, he’s Alonzo Mourning’s son. Georgetown isn’t going to offer and the parental units are starting to warm up to Florida as an academic institution. They like Harvard, but Tommy Amaker has a nearly full roster. Trey shoots the 3-ball well and it’s encouraging to see him willing to bang a bit more. He camped at Florida in the summer and made a very good impression on the UF coaching staff." www.gatorcountry.com/florida-gators-basketball/florida-gators-basketball-recruiting/basketball-confidential-week-good-news/Just like I was very unhappy that we didn't take a chance on 6'11" Noah (who had great "genes" and was given his first basketball from Patrick), I'll be upset if we don't somehow find a way to get this man to Georgetown. At least PE, Jr. got to spend his final two years on the hilltop!!! #HoyaSaxa #WeAreGeorgetown It's been posted here and I don't think anyone takes it too seriously.

What are the rules surrounding players originally getting a scholarship and then later becoming a walk-on? This has happened a lot recently (Doug McDermott comes to mind, and I know Louisville did it with 2 players a couple years ago). I wouldn't mind giving Trey a scholly now, with the option to have him walk-on if there's an opportunity to improve the team later. That way, we don't shortchange Trey, and the only way he walks on is if he agrees its for the best of the team.

The Hoyas have two scholarships left for next year. I originally thought another guard would be needed for next year with Starks leaving, but with the improved play of DSR at the point and Ryan Williams now a walkon, I think there will be enough guards with DSR, Trey, Trawick,Peak and Domingo. The Hoyas could pull in a top 100 big and still have a scholly for Mourning.

The Hoyas could pull in a top 100 big and still have a scholly for Mourning. Hold up. What's wrong with my math? The Hoyas have 13 guys on scholarship right now, right? 1)Nate 2)Markel 3)Caprio 4)Joshua Smith 5)Bowen 6)Moses 7)Bowen 8)Tyler Adams 9)Jabril 10)Mikael 11)Domingo 12)Bradley Hayes 13)Cameron First of all....how did Caprio get a schollie in August with Greg Whittington still on the team? That would have moved it up to 14 scholarships total. Is Adams' situation one in which his scholarship no longer counts against the cap? Second with four new guys already on their way to Gtown next year, where do the available scholarshis come from for them to fit? And I'm not even counting the possibility of Trey joining them as well which would make five new arrivals. Obviously Nate, Markel and John Caprio are gone. But are the Hoyas losing Bowen and/or Moses too? Both could return a fifth year considering their former reshirt status. Frankly the team may be better off if both did return. Is Joshua Smith moving on? Are the Hoyas expecting a couple of transfers (it is one thing for HT fans to always assume such transferd will happen and be okay with it but it wouldn't be wise for the coaching staff to take such gambles)? And even if the Hoyas are able to squeeze five guys in (some of you want six!) in from the 2014 class, where is the room for recruits in the 2015 class, particularly with one schollie already being taken by Marcus Derrickson? Frankly five players in one class may be too much given how awful III has been in general in spreading the wealth of time on the court amongst his players. If he has on his roster next season 11 or 12 guys who can really contribute and/or have loads of potential, what are the chances he uses all of them?

MCI, you have Bowen twice. Tyler does not count (per inside info). Sr. Caprio took up an open scholarship at the beginning of the year. GW's open.

I also thought that the Hoyas would have five available for next year, but I may be wrong. Counting the four commitments coming plus Jabril, Hopkins, Smith, Domingo, Cameron, Hayes, Bowen, Moses and DSR gives you a total of 13. Isn't 13 the cap? If correct, the only way you can fit in another scholarship player is if someone leaves. Moses and Bowen are seniors with remaining eligibility. I would prefer to see both stay, but either could graduate and move on to another school and play immediately--see Oregon, UNLV and SDSU. As for transfers, it seems ridiculous and unfair to speculate at this point. If this count is incorrect, please let me know.

Just noticed my Bowen mistake when I came back to the board moments ago. My bad. Thanks for the info regarding Adams although that means a schollie doesn't open up when he graduates next year.

Perhaps an under-the-table deal with the Mourning clan that Trey is a walk-on during his first season? Or would that be illegal (well, if it's under-the-table I may already have that answer).

POD mentioned earlier in the thread that if he were treated like a walk on (no official visit, among other things) he would not be a counter.

Just for fun I put together a Google spreadsheet that is easier to read than the one linked in this forum: docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Av4qzLIhaUWHdC0xZDFEWmZKNDZwU2JqWk5OUUp5NlE#gid=0. This should help visualize the team going forward. Holylandofhoops.com has a similar sheet for every team in the conference. I just copied it, basically.

Very helpful Hoyabinx. Assuming that no one leaves following this season, the Hoyas would be done for the 2014 class but could bring in 5 in the 2015 class. That 2015 team would have 9 underclassmen.

I had said two schollies were available next year per the scholarship table on front page. I did not know both Bowen and Ayegba had been granted an additional year of eligibility.

If we take the 2014 plus MD as a sign of what's to come in 2015, we should be fine with that. JT3 has handled less experienced teams before and in 2014 they will be led by Sr. captains Hopkins and Jabril, plus All-BE candidate DSR in 2014 and last year Smith. That should serve as a great base of experience for 2015.

I may be mistaken in the spreadsheet whether they have been granted an extra year. It is my understanding that both at least would be able to claim a medical redshirt. Moses: www.guhoyas.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/moses_ayegba_729466.html: "Sophomore (2011-12): Sat out the season after undergoing surgery following an injury during the summer." Bowen: www.guhoyas.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/aaron_bowen_723963.html: "Freshman (2010-11): Appeared in seven games, but missed the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery ... Averaged 1.0 points and 0.6 rebounds ... Scored a career-high five points against Loyola."

You don't ask for the additional year until the time comes. So this summer if both decide to stay at Georgetown and Georgetown wants them to stay then we will apply for the medical redshirt waiver and they should easily be granted their extra year. I think it would be great if they returned, but it's up to them as well. They could transfer and likely play right away once granted their 5th years.

Going pro where HB? Unless they are pumped to play ball somewhere in south America or a lower level Euro league they aren't going anywhere.
