According to what I think I heard the announcers say near the end, JTIII is now 19-3 in games decided by less than 5 points (or maybe it was 5 points or less).
First post to bash Esh wins.

According to what I think I heard the announcers say near the end, JTIII is now 19-3 in games decided by less than 5 points (or maybe it was 5 points or less). This stat needs to be qualified. At Princeton, he was 14-1 in Ivy League games decided by 5 points or less or in overtime. His Princeton teams lost a few more close games than they won in non-league play, including 3-point losses at Texas, at Oklahoma, at Minnesota, a 1-point NIT loss at Louisville, and a couple of 2-point losses to Rutgers to name a few excrutiatingly close games against majors that I can remember. This season, Georgetown is now 5-2 against Big East teams in 5 or less or OT games, with wins against Pitt, Nova, ND, Rutgers, Seton Hall, and the OT loss to Syracuse and Saturday's loss on the Gomes shot. So JTIII is 19-3 for his career in league play, but not overall.

If it was last year we would have been 1-7 in these games. Esh would have called timeouts each time (think ND) to allow the D to set-up so we could then get an awful shot. Things are a changin.

Best quote of the night, JTIII, when asked by Mark Jones when he was going to start breaking down UConn film: "At least let me get off the floor first!"

Speaking of timeouts, how many threes did Owens get off a timeout...JTIII loves calling the TO, then setting up a play for Owens. Happened at least twice last night. It was refreshing to have us come out of a TO with an actual play to run. Wow, what a difference. Pardon me as I skip to Starbucks while contemplating that change.

Interesting qualification bmartin. And now that you've pointed it out, it is very random. I mean, I can understand them doing it overall, or in just Big East play, but doing it for conference play over two different conferences sounds like they had come up with their argument before they came up with their stats.

I'm guessing the 18-3 stat was in the Georgetown SID's game notes for the media, and Elmore overlooked the league-play qualifier.
