Despite the mainstream media insisting the president was low-keying the visit to Ground Zero, we saw videos of him placing a wreath on the site. Are you seriously saying placing a wreath is too flashy and self-promoting?

To be fair, I read Ed's post as a satire and got a good laugh out of it.

More on that new Stealth Blackhawk used in the Bin Laden raid, and an explanation of it's "malfunction". This would also explain why the Paks didn't respond to the intrusion, perhaps until the backup chopper arrived. It might also explain why it took 40 minutes on site -- waiting for the backup. Little by little, info gets out -- e.g. CIA 24/7 reconnaissance of the location. But I still think there will be much that we never know. For my fellow Spec Ops geeks, the link is below: Attack on Bin Laden Used Stealthy Helicopter That Had Been a SecretExcerpts Lawmakers who were briefed on the mission said the damaged helicopter had not malfunctioned, as initially described by senior administration officials. Instead, they said, it got caught in an air vortex caused by higher-than-expected temperatures and the high compound walls, which blocked the downwash of the rotor blades.
As a result, the helicopter lost its lift power while hovering over the yard and had to make a hard landing, clipping one of the walls with its tail.

"Bin Laden was at least 6-foot-4, and the pacer seemed to have the gait of a tall man. The White House asked the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, which provides and analyzes satellite imagery, to determine the pacer’s height. The agency said the man’s height was somewhere between 5-foot-8 and 6-foot-8, according to one official."
Boy i hope were not giving too much money to the Geospatial-Intelligence Agency for developing the ability to estimate a man's height to between "shorter than your average man to average NBA starting center height." Super helpful that.

"Another official said the agency provided a narrower range for the pacer’s height, but the estimate was still of limited reliability because of the lack of information about the size of the building’s windows or the thickness of the compound’s walls, which would have served as reference points."
The fact that they can narrow the height of an object from photos from space to within a foot without any sort of reference point is amazing to me.

I keep reading about the US wanting to interview Bin Laden's wives. But no one is talking about the tail section of that stealth chopper. We may never hear what happens to it, but you can be sure the US is pressuring the Paks to give it back. Hey, for $20 Billion, we'd like our broken chopper back. You can buy some more F-16's.

Using Cuban Missile Crisis technology i could probably guestimate (which is all that was done here) a man's height to within 12 inches. Heck, i'd bet anything you are between 5-6 and 6-6. Am i right? Without even a satelite photo! Amazed? For an encore, are you also between 150 and 300 pounds? The reference points are the walls around the yard he paced. I can see my adirondack chairs in my backyard from space using my cell phone well enough to guestimate their size within a foot or two. I would hope intel agencies would be well beyond iphone/google maps technology. They narrowed his height down to a range that includes about 80% of all adult men on earth. Fantastic.

I am amazed that we have the technology to make McGriddles, so I'm probably not going to make a judgement on this one.

It's, uh, not on our maps anymore.

Wholly SITH! there really are 1,440 comments on this article/!?!?!<!? "I mourn the loss of thousands of voices who cried out and were silenced, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, fear, suffering, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.” Mace Windu King, Jr

Pakistan to return U.S. helicopter tail, Kerry saysExcerpts ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Pakistan has agreed to return the tail of the U.S. military helicopter that was damaged during the raid that killed Osama bin Laden, Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.) said here Monday, part of what he called a “specific series of steps” aimed at reducing tensions between Islamabad and Washington.
The helicopter was damaged after making a hard landing at bin Laden’s compound. Navy SEALs destroyed part of it before leaving, in an effort to keep the latest U.S. military technology a secret. But the tail remained intact, and photos of it quickly made their way into public view. In the days after the operation, Pakistani intelligence officials said China had expressed interest in it.
