If I am reading the scholarship board correctly, we only have one more slot for 2012, assuming everyone stays. This being the case, losing Ochefu is not the end of the world. If we can sign a guy like Kyle Anderson, thats still a very good class.

And every recruit that we sign is not nearly as good as he is made out to be. Don't worry, you will learn.

The recruits we sign are not nearly as good as made out to be, but still better than the players on the roster. Don't forget that point.

A few examples of phenoms we missed on or people thought we should have brought in but didn't want: Anthony McClain (didn't play a lick at Cincy), Wally Judge (transfer), Maurice Cheek (transfer), Dashonte Riley (hurt), Mouph Yarou (pretty average thus far), Roscoe Smith (avg. freshman year), Juvonte Reddic (good fresh year at VCU), Terrence Jones (just finished first year for pro team), Tony Mitchell (didn't qualify), Latavious Williams (didn't qualify), Jelan Kendrick (kicked off team at Memphis).
Nova is a wreck right now with their recent meltdowns and McD transfer. We are fine.

Nova's situation is similar to ours except they keep stealing our recruits. Cheek is no loss for them. He never did anything there. Good news is that he too is from St Anthony's, the same school where Anderson plays. Perhaps Hurley will be a little hesitant to send one of his kids back to Wright....then again Anthony Perry went here and......(voice trails off) A few examples of phenoms we missed on or people thought we should have brought in but didn't want: Anthony McClain (didn't play a lick at Cincy), Wally Judge (transfer), Maurice Cheek (transfer), Dashonte Riley (hurt), Mouph Yarou (pretty average thus far), Roscoe Smith (avg. freshman year), Juvonte Reddic (good fresh year at VCU), Terrence Jones (just finished first year for pro team), Tony Mitchell (didn't qualify), Latavious Williams (didn't qualify), Jelan Kendrick (kicked off team at Memphis). I'm guessing that if a 2012 kid who might merely have an oral commitment to Gtown shows that he is not worthy of the scholarship for either basketball or academic reasons, then he will end up being told that he won't play or be successful here, and that will open their schollie. Hypothetically of course.

Is there any confirmation that Cheek is transferring from Villanova? Have seen it mentioned on this board a couple times, but has this news been announced publicly?

Assuming Pinkston is returning to the team, in order for them to have a scholarship available, someone needs to transfer. And word is it's Cheek.

Anthony Perry was a headcase and I highly doubt his baggage will affect our relationship with St. Anthonys.

Anthony Perry was a headcase and I highly doubt his baggage will affect our relationship with St. Anthonys. Whoa. Headcase, Baggage. I agree. Perry didn't leave up to his lofty expectations but, he was a Hoya. You talk about him as if he were earning a check here. Kids decide to come here over other schools that persued them. Please don't kick them when they are here/gone. Some pan out some don't. Please respect the Student Athletes that choose to represent the University. I remember the buzz about him when he committed (97?). The hilltop could not wait till his arrival at the time. Then had to sit out the 98' Season.

For those who weren't around when Anthony Perry played, or assume he was a bust, three points of interest:
1. Perry led the Hoyas in scoring in 1998-99 with a 14.5 average. Had he played four years, he would have approached at least 1,300 points or where Chris Wright finished up. Perry lost his freshman year on a NCAA technicality (it did not consider a course titled "Introduction to Computers" as a computer science course for core curriculum requirements) and he lost a significant year of play as a result.
2. Two things then happened which people ignore: 1) a wrist injury in 1999 that hurt his shooting motion, and 2) an ankle injury at season's end which gave him no ability to jump.
3. Perry also opted to play in the 1999 Jersey Shore summer league rather than the Kenner, from which Craig Esherick then began to push Kevin Braswell as his #1 scorer and Perry's minutes began to drop.
Esherick then overrecruited Perry by signing Demetrius Hunter in the spring of 1999 (who transferred after two seasons). As if he was sending a message, Esherick then recruited two more shooting guards in late spring, Raynardo Curry (whose schoalrship was "released" at the end of the summer before freshman year), and Jason Burns (who played in 3 of the first 5 games of his freshman year, missed 4 attempts, and literally disappeared thereafter). I saw him play at the Maui Invitational but I'd guess few if anyone on this board has any memory seeing him play beyond that.
Perry graduated on time in 2001. He deserves more credit than he is given.
