There is a nice list in the Washington Post today including all of the DC area kids playing in the NCAA tourney this year. After looking at it, there is not really one guy on there who we are deperately missing - the best players are Hoyas. Some decent defensive-minded big men who would have been nice to have instead of Benimon I suppose and maybe Marshall instead of Starks (still too early to make that call), but if we can keep getting the cream of the crop from this area we will be fine.

Nolan Smith?
But yeah, it's been a somewhat down period for DC hoops following this year's senior class. Jeff Allen from VTech was a target I think, and has turned into a tough, if unspectacular, power forward. He would have helped.

Nolan Smith wasn't on their list - I guess it was local high school kids, since he went to high school out of the area.

Ian Hummer looked awfully good against all of those McDonalds All Americans on Kentucky.
I dont know if he was a get but too bad he's not wearing grey.

Ian Hummer's father was Ed Hummer who played basketball for Princeton back in the 60s. Ed Hummer's younger brother John Hummer also played basketball for Princeton and was an all-east player. If Ian Hummer has a younger brother who plays basketball, look for him to wind up at Princeton

How did the Barton brothers get away? Both will be productive at Memphis.

I don't think it's too early to call Marshall over Starks.
I'd love to be wrong about that though.

Did we ever have a shot at Marshall? My understanding was our decision was between Starks, Thornton, and Atkins from ND. I hope we end up on the right side of that one.

Marshall chose UNC over Georgetown--and UNC was his lifelong favorite. He's also perfect fit for what UNC does/type of roster they consistently have. You put him on Georgetown-and he'd make same plays--and look a lot worse. Kendall is a good example of choosing not just his favorite school growing up--but one that FITS HIS GAME---they push the ball, they have weapons inside/out, and if he turns the ball over--doesn't hurt as much because the pace they play at--he'll make that back in assists. Good player--but for Hoyas--he's not a great shooter, he's not a good defensive player, and pace Hoyas play at--the turnovers would be magnified.
It's also too early to bury Starks-he's got time to develop. I still like him over Thornton and while Eric Atkins played a nice role for ND---he'll be in similar position to Markel next year in terms of needing to take a more commanding role of handling the team--as Hansbrough did a lot of the handling late/decision making in tight games and ND has interchangeable free flowing offense where guys all handle and exploit matchups that favor them-more of an NBA halfcourt look where Hoyas utilize their system.

Anything on Joe McDonald? Class of '12 G (PG?) from Landon. Made first team All-Met.
Guessing he is high mid-major??
