The MaxPrep link about yesterday's games at Dematha (full link below) had this to say about Beejay/we are still in a BIG mix of schools apparently. I didn't stay long enough yesterday to see if JT III stuck around to see Dematha's game, but I hope he (or someone on staff did) to show some continued love . . . DeMatha's Anya to narrow list in 2012DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.) center BeeJay Anya will begin trimming down his collegiate choices beginning in either the spring or summer of 2012. Anya holds a laundry list of offers, with Florida State, Georgetown, Clemson, Maryland, North Carolina State, Pittsburgh, St. John's, Virginia and Virginia Tech among them. "As of right now there are no favorites at all," Anya said. Anya said Maryland has picked up its recruiting with him, as first-year Terrapins coach Mark Turgeon and assistant Delonte Hill recently stopped by DeMatha for a practice. "As a program it's going to be a lot better since (former Maryland coach) Gary Williams left," Anya said. "No disrespect to Gary Williams, but I think (Turgeon) is starting to turn the program around a little." www.maxpreps.com/news/Qb6JkSO7EeG-rAAmVebEWg/national-high-school-hoops-festival-standouts.htm

First time seeing him this season, and the transformation his body has undergone is eye opening. I've been one of his biggest detractors, but he looked like a different player last night competing against DaJuan Coleman, who is one of the most physically intimidating high school players I've ever seen.
Much more mobile on both ends, showed an increased level of activity on offense and looked like he's been working a lot on his offensive game in the post.
I wouldn't say he's light years ahead of Meeks, but he looked more impressive last night.
JTIII left before the DeMatha game, but Hunter stuck around.

The guy talking to Anya asked him to specifically talk about Maryland after he listed about every school in the country. I wouldn't read a lot into that.

When I saw him in the stands at Kenner this year he didnt look like he could lose 40 lbs., but maybe he was already 20 or 30lbs into the loses. I love the wing span and from the little I have seen from him I would love to see him on Gtown, but why do I feel like no matter what the articles say there is really no chance?

His wing span makes up for him being only 6'7.

TV Alert: Damatha playing on ESPNU 1PM today (Jan. 16/MLK Day), so folks can see Beejay for themselves. I saw him about a week ago against Bishop Ireton for first time this year, and he indeed has slimmed down considerably and still has very good shot blocking instincts and soft hands. But he is a generously listed 6'8" at best (albeit the long arms make up for some of that) and "quicks" not easy to see (but not really tested against overmatched Ireton). Will be very interested to hear what others seeing him, today on TV or elsewhere in person, think . . .

Just watched Anya on espn against Bishop Gorman..
He definitely looks to be a very good prospect but I don't think he's right for JT3's system at this time. He seems to be a strictly low post player.
I didn't see him face the basket at all, which is a vital skill to have in the GU offense.
He was good defensively but I'd prefer to have a more polished offensive post player and then have the staff coach up his defense instead of visa/versa

It's a complete joke that he's going to be "moving up the rankings". Tells me Mike Jones either has major clout with guys doing rankings or big men are non existent in upcoming class (which is NOT the case btw). I credit Anya for dropping bad weight and it's made him more explosive but he's got crappy hands, doesn't finish well (air balled 3-4 layups/shots from within 4 feet), got whipped by a ND signee--FOR FOOTBALL (Ronnie Stanley who will be an OT at ND) and looks like a kid who should really pursue a FB career himself. He'd be a nice OL/DL prospect and have a chance to make money--as a basketball player--he's a role player who will be nice fit for a 3pt shooting team who doesn't utilize bigs.

100% agree with RDF. I hadnt seen him since he lost the weight so I was hopeful but he looked terrible today.

Good for him and great example for other kids how to work hard. Pulling for him to do well because he has put a lot into improving. Think he's a better fit elsewhere then Georgetown--but commend the young guy for knowing what needs to be done and more importantly-doing it.

I know the board has been down on Beejay lately, but I think there's definitely something to be said fora kid with a 7'9 wingspan, a strong work ethic, and a good attitude.

Doesn't Lic require an 8 foot wing span from our centers (e.g., Nerlens....)

Anya has literally the longest wingspan out there right now. 3 inches longer than that of Demarcus Cousins, who's 7'6 wingspan had everyone going crazy before the draft. Noel's comes in at 7'3.

Wingspan matters a lot more to me if you can play like the guys named above. Anya is very raw and not skilled. A great wingspan hasn't helped him around hoop-he misses a ton of dunks/bunnies and he struggles against players who have size.

Meeks is taller, more skilled and better, imo.
