Special players have ability too though.
You mention Kobe Bryant. He doesn't just will his way because of his will, but also because of his tremendous basketball skill that he has.
Same thing with our beloved Hoya, Allen Iverson.
Guys are fighting as hard as they can.
What more could they have done against UCONN without a PG?
the guys with the most ability played the best....Clark and Freeman. they guys with lesser ability played like they normally played all year. they were all trying. but everybody has limits to what they can do.
we lost convincingly to UCONN with Chris Wright this year and Kemba Walker just tearing us up. Was there going to be a turn of events without Chris Wright against UCONN in the BET?
i mean, i don't know what more could you want from our guys.

passion is there, but the talent isn't what it used to be. the talent we have isn't bad, but its just not what our Final Four and Sweet Sixteen teams were under JTIII. You want your coach to be composed. Coach III is not only composed, but he looks and acts professional on the sideline. He represents the university well, on the court and off it. He is a tremendous class act. Outward expression is overrated. Its about results. These past 4 "down" years of JTIII have consisted of a Big East Regular season title, two Big East tournament championship game appearances, and 3 NCAA tournament appearances. Everybody wants to go to he Final Four every year. People fail to realize how hard that is. Its really hard to get there. Shoot, Pops had some great teams that didn't make it to the Final Four (88-89, 95-96, 79-80). Its really hard. JTIII has done a good job. He has made some mistakes. But he is the right guy for us. You aren't going to get a better coach to come here. We have a steal in JTIII. Just recruit a little better. Thats all. JTIII can stay cool like a jazz player all he wants. Well said. As for RDF's subsequent comment that "They don't dive on the court, they don't sell out to get loose balls, they dont' hustle down the court each possession," I think its a disservice to label the entire team in those terms. Some of the underclassmen have that drive, they aren't (yet) the leaders of this team. I like Lubick's attitude, and Starks'. Many incoming players will help. The last several games have been awful. Don't let that get in the way of an objective assessment of what JTIII has accomplished since he's been here. I went to Atlanta to see our team at the Final Four. I went to New York last year to see our team at the BE championship game. Fans of most NCAA teams - most Big East teams - haven't had those opportunities. For a program without the resources of a state-based school, the results have been remarkable. The fact that those results have come without Jim Tressel "I didn't know who to call"/Jim Calhoun culture of compliance failures is spectacular. Look at the changes to the coaching staff. Look at the changes to the type/character of incoming recruits. The sky isn't falling. Stop acting like a bunch of snivelers with victory entitlement. Some of those commenting on this board depress the hell out of me because it appears you haven't led lives with appreciable adversity, and from that, don't have an understanding of the value of loyalty. Let's get the practice facility fundraiser going and get the damn thing built. The team will be fine. Coaches will be fine. JTIII will be fine. Hoya Saxa.

While we talk about lack of spark, does anyone know what was up with Henry yesterday? He looked like the freshman Henry. He was getting pushed around on both ends of the court and was slow geting to the spot on defense and offense.

Was there going to be a turn of events without Chris Wright against UCONN in the BET? i mean, i don't know what more could you want from our guys. Complete BS. Watch people jog back on defense and that's "trying their best". Ball's on the floor, UConn has guys diving for it--a lot of them role players or have they found a fountain of talent on their team now??--and Georgetown guys either not making the effort or reaching for the ball as they don't get down after it. That takes ZERO talent. If you think it does--you must enjoy a lot of dogcrap basketball/basketball players. If you are too good to run back on defense when the opponent is bringing ball up in transition-then you are too slow/tired/worthless to see the court. Running slow because you are slow is one thing--but seeing these guys play--we know the difference in running/jogging. UConn-Gtown with Wright was a possession game under 2 minutes---and that is "convincingly losing"--WTF?? I'd hate to see what a close game is then. Chris Wright can't make these guys play harder or do what they should be doing---he can only control his effort and make game easier for them on offense--but it's ironic the one guy who actually dives on court gets injured--diving after a loose ball. Rather have guys like him then someone who hasn't done much in his career, jog/stand and watch/loaf/play like a chump. "Effort" like that is disgusting and requires ZERO skill/talent. It just requires giving a flying expletive about the game/your teammates/having some self pride.

Let's stop with the "intensity"mantra. Folks, this team just isn't that good talent-wise. Is there a futrue NBA player on it nevermind a first rounder? Compare it to the teams who beat us this year. Every one of them has NBA calibre players. When we had such players no one complained about "intensity". You could argue that this team has achieved far more than it should have given that we have no real big men. I'd be flat too if, like JV, I was getting the ball shoved down my throat every time I went up with it. I'd be down too if, like AF, opponents are ganging up on me because we have no low post game. I'd be down too if, like JC, I'm a shooting guard playing point. So let's just hope that Starks shos us more next year, that Lubick continues to improve, that Hollis blossoms next year, and we get some stud big men. If we do then this "intensity" issue will be forgotten.

People ALWAYS complained about the lack of intensity of our 2007 squad. Go back to the posts when we were 4-3 having just lost to Oregon on our home court and then come back and tell me no one complained. Also, Temple beat us. first-rounder? hmmm, Lavoy Allen? I doubt it. Who else? Juan Fernandez? How about Notre Dame? Who do they have that is NBA first round material? Ben Hansbrough? wrong again. Before you post again, think about what you are going to write and then ask yourself if you can defend it with facts. Thanks.

Great News on CW. No excuses now. It's up to coaching and the will of our players.

Great News on CW. No excuses now. It's up to coaching and the will of our players. Absolutely. Chris's availability will not automatically cure what has ailed us lately, but there is no reason these guys and this staff can't turn it around and get back closer to where we were during our streak.

Allen will be an NBA first rounder as will Hansbrough. But that misses the point. My point is this Hoya team is very thin talentwise especially compared to our opposition. It's not that they lack intensity. They lack talent. Hey, I've been watching the Hoyas since 1964. It pains me to say this but facts are facts. Tell me which of our players (with the exception of AF)would start on any of the top 8 BE Teams.
