It seems to be that every game I have been to the crowd has been a little weak, the problem is that we play in too big a stadium.
The Hoyas need a SMALL stadium that seats about 4-5 thousand people like the HATED RAC in Rutgers or the Heralded Cameron indoor in Duke
If the Hoyas could get a small stadium for themselves then they would finally have homecourt advantage and they would win a few more games, plus the student section is currnetly just a bunch of band nerds

Not this again... LOL... Motion to banish it to the 37&O Board, Dan?
Incidentally, we can play Howard in a 5000 seat gym, but not any BE opponents. I think the floor is around 6000 folks.

Just for clarification the RAC and Cameron both hold about 9,000, which Georgetown probably could not fill especially on campus where it would be almost impossible to draw the general public. We averaged under 9,000 a game this year and that was with easy Metro access for the casual fan.
I agree we need an on-campus facility but due to lack of space it will only seat about 5,500 which means we would still play 6-8 Big East and major non-conference games at MCI.
The best solution is to build a great team to sell-out the MCI center like the Cap Center used to.

Its just amazing that the myth persists that US Air used to consistently sell out. It didn't, not even close. At no point was average attendance in any arena for the hoyas at even 14,000 - but DFW can detail this better than I. Even in the golden age- which means 10K and 12K person crowds when the team was top 10 nationally. Crowds were certainly a bit bigger during the good old days, but they were not in reality FAR better than say the Sweet 16 year with Sweetney. That season I believe MCI got pretty close to selling out for Cuse and ND from what I remember. If that is what people remember from US AIr- then that is legit, but I think a lot of people are buying into some myth that even when the Hoyas were a national power, seats were very hard to get. They were not.

One thing I hate about MCI's largeness is that it enables too many opposing fans to come. There were definitly too many Nova and WVU fans in the house in my opinion (I was unable to attend the ND game but I imagine the same was true). When that happens, you really lose some of the home court edge. You just dont see many opposing fans at Cameron, or at the Pavilion in Nova, or in OSU's arena (name?). At places like that, students have to either lineup for tickets or win them via lottery. At Georgetown, we just keep trying to get people to come.
Sure, more wins will lead to more Hoya fans in the DC arena filling up the non-student section seats, but I still hate that we're unable to find a way to prevent opposing fans from getting in. The buildings just too big. I also hate how our student section doesnt seem as loud because the sounds spread over a huge space as compared to say Cameron, which is the size of like, my kitchen or something and has close to 10K people in it.
