This game was impossible to watch in person. I never seen such a soft team as we are. I don't care who wants to disagree or kill me for saying this. How the hell can you let kimba repeatly drive to basket and make us look like fools. A guy like that you have to intiminate him and knock him on his ass. Where's our enforcer? So frustrating!

He knocked himself on his ass begging for a foul. He needed a JYD or a Michael Graham forearm shivver to the chest!

What's alternative--have a limited frontcourt get a flagrant? I thought Hoyas were physical with Walker at times/but he's a good player--I'd be more concerned with going and grabbing the ball off missed shots--dont' wait for ball to come to them--but sometimes they were boxing out and Walker/Napier just beat everyone to ball--other teams have talented/great players too. It's not the '80's--you can't elbow a guy in throat like Ewing used to get Mullin off the ball--today that would result in a flagrant ejection. Key is to limit other guys--and Hoyas didn't do that tonight--but "Soft" teams don't have ball with chance to lead under a minute in a game they should've lost by 15-20.

we aren't soft.
a soft team would have let UCONN blow the game away in the 2nd half.
we fought to the end.
UCONN was just quicker than us. we were a half-step slower than they were.
quick, shifty teams have always given JTIII teams trouble.

Rich, I know this was a huge game for you, and I feel your pain, but I can't agree that we were soft. JV was in foul trouble, Henry had one of his worst games this year, I just think we could not assert our will down low - including on Walker - like we normally might have done. If we see him again in NYC things will be different.

Good point by Way--remember the Mike Conley game in Final Four?? Lawson was getting UNC layups for most of 1st Half against Hoyas too-but thank goodness he was about 15 lbs too heavy as a young player!

I thought we could have been more consistently physical with Kemba on his drives though. Not necessarily calling for dirty flagrant fouls, but there is a way to stop a guy from scoring with a clean hard foul. We weren't in foul trouble either.

Great post. I thought we could have been more consistently physical with Kemba on his drives though. Not necessarily calling for dirty flagrant fouls, but there is a way to stop a guy from scoring with a clean hard foul. We weren't in foul trouble either. Some of those drives were impossible to defend though. We had two guys on him down low but he has this knack for shielding the ball with his body and throwing in a reverse layup or over the shoulder layup with major english. Fouling him on that would just get an and 1 or a flagrant. The key is to stop him before he gets going but he was blowing by Hollis from the 3pt line, so it's easier said than done. He's going to get his points so I think we did a great job of keeping the game close. It's just that Freeman, Hollis, Clark weren't hitting from outside and Vaughn was having trouble scoring with the length of Oriaki and the other forwards surrounding him.

HOnestly we have a better team, a more complete team there is no doubt of that. It was just frustrating watching 2 guys beat us. My problem is when we say WE ARE HOYAS to me that means having a edge and having teams fear us. They didnt fear us out there. I wish I know how many lap ups we gave up tonight or how many times Kemba schooled us. Seeing Kemba put his fists up make hulk hogan bicep moves to the crowd and there is no repercusions is baffeling. We are a better team and honestly better coached, We just lacked the hoya paranoya mind set on a night when its exactly what we needed...

No matter what anyone said, we were extra-bummed just b/c of what a miserable experience it was being there in person. But I think in a few days, you'll see this wasn't the worst loss in the world. Still sucks to sit in an opponent's arena and listen to their crowd celebrate.

Actually, I thought we got foul shy. I don't think we're soft in the least.

Just back from the game and unlike Rich i'm far more serene about this loss than i could ever imagine. Sitting behind the bench it was pretty obvious to me that the ankle is bothering him both physically and mentally. Very little explosion off it. Unfortunately if it's a high sprain as i suspect it will most likely nag him the rest of the year. Just gotta play throuh it. resting one game will have little impact on healing. We are not going to beat many good teams which Uconn is on the road when we shoot 43% and barely shoot over 50% from the line. Clark had a nice 1st half dissapeared in the second which was proabably more of defensive decsion. And can someone tell when Julian is ever going to make a pass out of the post if holds the ball for more than a 2 count everyone in the place know its going up. Rich i do know how you feel. I've come out of that cesspool of a hockey rink too many times over the last 20 years feeling dejected and knowing that we were not competitivetonight i'm very confident about beating them in New York if they are still around to play. I just hope someone remembers Oriakis dunk at the end.

Just got home from the game as well. I was in the corner off the Hoyas bench and I have to agree with sleepy - Austin looked like he had no lift and as a result his shot was off.
I have no problem with this team's effort or toughness. They were up a point at the end of the game and frankly, lost the game by missing a ton of open looks they normally make while not getting stops when they needed them.
