Hired Bobby Lutz to his staff--has strong connections and Gottfried has always been a good recruiter dating back to when he was at UCLA as an assistant with Lavin and Romar with Jim Harrick. His bench coaching is what is panned--not recruiting.

Exactly RDF and his handling of his players @ UA, i.e., Steele and Kennedy Winston.

Also hired Rob Moxley too--he's a strong recruiter. Guess I never assumed Hoyas were considered seriously by Graham--and especially when he didn't move to Boo Williams as rumored/reported--he stayed with Assault.

The Steele injury set him back at Bama. Steele was never the same when he came back. NC St will be in good hands with Gottfried..
question for the board -anyone else remember NC St. being the top rival for UNC. I always thought Hoyas/Cuse was the biggest rival in college ball until Duke beat UNLV.

Carolina/State was very big into the 1970's, but it's a sign of how State has fallen off the map of national basketball powers--and in the Norm Sloan era, Duke was not better than the 4th place ACC team behind UNC, State, and Maryland. From 1953-74, State won 9 ACC basketball titles. Since then? 2 (none since 1987) From 1953-74, Carolina won 5 titles. Since then? 12. From 1953-74, Duke won four titles. Since then? 15. In fact of the 58 years of the ACC tournament, the "Big Four (UNC, Duke, State, Wake) has won 50 of them. Maryland has three, Georgia Tech three, and everyone else just two.

Bob Lutz? I remember him playing tennis at USC, and partnering with Stan Smith.

The thing was harlem, Gottfried brought Steele back too quickly, which ruined his hoops future. Steele shoulda left when he had the chance, but was coaxed into coming back...the rest is history.

Thought I would bump this thread, since DSR brought him up. No idea if there is any fire there.

RT @scoutsfocus: Torian Graham lists offers from Memphis, Arizona, Texas, Louisville & Villanova with high interest from Kentucky & UConn.
Yeah, no chance.
