At 8-3, we had 5 games to go. We needed only to win 2 of them to be a lock. We couldn't even manage to pick 1 up. That is sickening.

Young Hoya team. 2. No quality depth. 3. Both teams that could/should have been wins (SJU and PC) have come together to play great ball down the stretch. PC finally began to play like they had been predicted to play. Losses to Nova, UConn, and at ND were predictable given the talent disparities between those teams' rosters and the Hoyas this year (see thought number 2).

Just brutal. I'm pretty bummed out after last night. 5 in a row is hard to believe.
I keep telling myself that if someone gave us 8-8 before the season i would have taken it in a heartbeat...but my hopes were higher.
Oh well. let's get a win in the BET.

The really sad thing is that with a win yesterday and in the BET on Wednesday, we still had a shot at the NCAAs.
By being abroad I missed what probably would have been the best part of my GTown basketball career (our 8-3 BE start), and what would have been the worst (the 0-5 finish).

I think several people got caught up in the excitement of the 8-3 start and rightfully so, but we probably did not do enough justice to what kind of 8-3 team we were in BE play.
We picked up big wins at Pitt, Nova, and home against ND. We won that Pitt game, no questions asked. It took some heady play to win the Nova and ND games that showed us something very positive but, at the same time, suggested that we, to a certain degree, stole a quick W by virtue of some quick thinking and mental breakdowns by our opponents that could not under normal circumstances be expected. Add in how Jason Fraser was injured in that Nova game and we probably should have taken those wins to be more of a "wash" that worked out in our favor than some earth shattering event.
Brings me back to my motto at the start of the season, which was, "We are neither as good nor as bad as we think we are." Well, we're not as bad as this 5 game losing streak, and we were not as good as those wins against ND and Nova to the degree that we should have rationally expected that we'd repeat a similar win down the stretch, although those initial wins were well deserved, and no one should take anything away from that.

Yeah, I agree with this. One thing that concerns me, though, is that this team has a crying need for at least one (if not two) more contributing big men. We've been killed all year by teams with size, and while the incoming group looks good, none of them figure to alleviate that problem. Green is great, of course, and Roy will hopefully improve, but that isn't nearly enough, as Saturday's game, where both were in foul trouble, aptly demonstrated. I have little hope that Cornelio, who couldn't even get a glimpse of the floor this year, will help much. Ditto Dizdarivec. And AKD is what he is. We desperately need another big who can play, not someone who will just take up space on the bench.
