I know these things can happen. I've seen it a couple of times over the years with our Villanova WIldcats, but this one kind of took me by surprise.
I'm sure you've dissected it ad nauseum over here, but just wondered if there's a prevalent theory.
I saw D.F.W. Hoya's post on ndnation regarding it being part of a recent pattern.
One guy's theory: Maybe the overall shortage in typical Big East talent could have worn your down in the late- season. You seemed to struggle for shots against us and in a couple of other games I watched.
Anyhow, in general, despite the unfortunate finish, good season for you guys and, hopefully, with a good recruiting year, some major hope for a bright future.

I am an sports xenophobe. I definitely don't need to see posts by outsiders, particularly the soft pity variety. I'd almost prefer nasty attacks to posts like the above.

Give the Nova guy a break. His posts, although biased toward his alma mater of course, have been supportive of our program, and I believe that he truly wishes us well. I hope Nova represents the Big East well in the tournament. I agree with him that our downfall was mainly that our lack of talent finally caught up with us. If you were to list the top 10 backcourt players in the BE, I would bet that you would not find a Hoya. Likewise wtih the frontcourt. As good as JG will be, he is not presently in the top 10. BB maybe, maybe. But go ahead go through the Villanueva's, Boone , Warrick, etc. At best, BB is at the bottom. I am talking now, not the future. Without a top 10 guard, and ,arguably, without a top 10 front man, we finally were exposed

I noticed that against Villanova...we struggled to get good looks or we were tentative in taking the opportunities that we had... Our defense was really undisciplined down the stretch of the season...we went for a lot of head-fakes against 'Nova... We have got to send more people to the offensive glass...Brandon and Wallace have to be willing to create something when the shot clock is running down... I think this season was definitely a success, despite our disappointment down the stretch...

Frank Black, you would qualify as censor of the week. Wild Hoya, "Spare Us"? Get it together, eh?
Forums are about opinions. Have I EVER trash-talked to you folks?
Most of your folks have a ton of class and I appreciate the reactions. I don't mind being criticized when you think it's warranted. But the hostility is kind of pointless and silly, don't you think?
Despite your attack-the-messenger mentality, I still wish the Hoyas well. I like John Thompson III and have no illusions that playing Georgetown is going to be anything but a trench war for the next several years.
Vagrant, agg, thanks.
Hang in there.

I haven't responded much if at all in your threads during BE play, but I have enjoyed every one of them. Of course, all arguments on these boards for any school are colored by experiences, perceptions, etc., but there are often good and interesting discussions to be had in spite of that. I think you've added to that on this site, and it is much appreciated, although you may have caught us in heated spots by virtue of a disappointing performance down the stretch.
I think you have told us what some GU fans still fail to recognize or acknowledge sufficiently in terms of the proverbial big picture and where this season fits in that context. This time last season, a former member of the program was planning his umpteenth trip to a community college in Kansas to recruit a player who had no interest in the program. This time last season, we all wondered what key player would jump ship for a better opportunity elsewhere. This year we can look back and see the tailspin down the stretch, sure, but we can also see a gutty win at home against ND, a gutty win in your gym under some interesting circumstances with your celebration, and the second BE win ever in the Pete. We can also look at a top 25 recruiting class with the possibility of bringing in another big and a Brandon Rush, although clearly we have our work ahead of us there. Not bad, not bad at all. Please continue to stop by here and I look forward to watching the trench warfare down the road in conference play with you guys.

i would pick villanova to go deep into the ncaa tournament but i saw them live this year lose to gtown at home...
the reason the hoyas wilted down the home stretch...esherick has this team loaded with too many players not capable of playing significant minutes in the big east
that will change

GAG. I hate outsiders and their annoying fake pity and good cheer. I'd much rather these people show up and tell me G'town sucks and I should Edited off. Here, here, Frank Black. Buckeye, what is with this Villanovanese "bonhommie" and "comraderie" stuff? When invading Scotland (ahem ... the Hilltop) in search of bloody, gaping wounds amongs the Hoyas, a proper British conqueror (ahem ... visiting fan of a rival Big East institution) must come properly armed to throw a splash and dash of a little scd.mm-c.yimg.com/image/619893715and scd.mm-c.yimg.com/image/485625266into said wounds. Evisceration is also a possibility. www.sector7g.galeon.com/multimedia/imageness/parodias/braveheart.jpgYou, Buckeye, need to show greater sensitivity to our general moodiness at this time. Therefore, kindly ADD to it, rather than trying to assuage it. Rational civility will return to Hoya faithful at a time TBA. Thank you.

Rational civility will return to Hoya faithful at a time TBA. Thank you. It's all 'Love', HoyaLawya... Our boys made a lot of bad plays this year due to inexperience... At least we end THIS regular season with some optimism... Last year this time, we had no clue what was going to become of our beloved Hoyas...

HoyaLawya, Seth Davis gave the Zags some love between games today. Said the Zags would be the team to watch coming out of the west. Although he was still hurting about picking the Zags to go all the way last year, before the great state of Nevada stopped them.

Yeah ... I figure with U-Dub stubbing its toe at Maples Pavilion, not to mention Arizona failing to dominate the PAC-10 in its normal fashion with some strange mishaps against that quirky Bennett squad in the Palouse, the Zags might be the regular creme-de-la-creme of the West.
Poor Seth ... never saw the buzzsaw coming out of Reno last year. (C'mon ... the WHOLE great state of Nevada wasn't needed ... just tiny little Reno.)
Will be interesting to watch the seedings next week, with the novelty of this new RPI business now upon us.
Meanwhile, I'm trying to figure out how the falling of the "mighty" of the past 24 hours might HELP the bubble-borderline chances for the Hoyas. Winning the BET outright isn't in the probabilistic cards but would 2 games do it? A promising re-ignition of the little motor that started us off so well in conference play? Hope it would, and does.

Since Seth said (who else to tell us this?) that if the Hoyas win two in the BET, we are in. Since if we get past SHU, we will probably get UCONN. If we need to beat the Huskies to get in, we might as well win the whole thing and leave no doubt or anxiety.
GO HOYAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOOK THE PIRATES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am an sports xenophobe. I definitely don't need to see posts by outsiders, particularly the soft pity variety. I'd almost prefer nasty attacks to posts like the above. Soft pity story. At the victory party after the 1985 Big East tournament at the Hoiel across the street (called the Penta or thePennsylvania or something) my friends and I ran into some disconsolate 'Nova fans who were convinced that their loss in the Big East Semi meant that they would not make the tournament. Over several beers, we consoled them with things like "of course you'll make the tournament" and "we sure wouldn't want to play you again." Oops. Now, obviously we are not playing very well, but the odds of us winning the Big East this year have to be better than Villanova winning it all back in 1985, and we won't face Villanova again except in a Big East Final. Im just saying....

Frank Black, although you're 200% more sophisticated and well-educated, no doubt, you still come off as some sort of moronic pro sports fan who wants to spill beer on a visiting fan.
Xenophobe Shmenophobe. Gimme a break. Wild Hoya, your intolerance deserves a whack across the chops with an autographed picture of Rollie Massimino!
Testy, testy.
