6'8 250 (has dropped a considerable amount of weight)
#61 on Rivals for 2012 #70 on Scout #82 on ESPN
blurb from scout this week..
as noted in the Tyler thread, Gavin outplayed him in their match up this year.
will speak with him this week to get some clarity on what he thinks of G'Town and specifically the playing time/numbers game with Tyler on board. Either way, it seems it might not just be Ochefu or hold tight as far as big men go. This kid, from all accounts, is coming on pretty strong this year.

Just reading between the lines of his quotes makes me think he'll be a hard get. Dad doesn't want him to play far from home, and referring to Tyler's arrival as "screw[ing] that all up." Let's hope those are both changeable sentiments.

Let's hope those are both changeable sentiments. Pretty sure he wants to be a Hoya, or at least that Hoyas have as good a chance as anyone. I think the stuff with his Dad actually just shows how much respect he has for Georgetown and that he's willing to go far from home to be a Hoya. I think the "screwing that up" part was more because Georgetown might not "need" Gavin with Adams in the fold (Hopkins and Bolden had just recently committed before Tyler, plus Nate and Moses of course.) So I think he's hoping Georgetown offers him, rather than leaning away from us on his own. My guess is that whether or not he gets an offer might have more to do with Ochefu though. Definitely interested in Ware, seems to be having a good season and high on us. Think he might be the type of guy we regret letting get away, if thats how it ends up going.

The original context is that the Hoyas were really hard on Ware until they got Adams. Because of the number of bigs we have committed, we may have backed off some. That's the "Adams screwed it up" -- from the Ware's perspective it was looking good with Kirby/Gtown.
That said, I like a kid with a chip on his should. You can only take so many bigs, but he does seem to produce.

Very interesting. Thanks Allen and others for the report and comments. Safe to say he is a back to the basket 4/5?
Great to see that we still involved with so many guys, and that Coach Kirby continues to pay dividends. We are obviously keeping all options open. I read Gavin's comments as RB does; heck, it would be great to have elite bigs fighting it out over who gets to become a Hoya.
Just wondering how remaining slots shake out with us on Ware, Porter and of course Ochefu and Anderson.
Moses, Tyler, Ware--that would be a lot of beef. Add Mikael and Brandon, and that is just ridiculous size; though, as Ranch will no doubt remind us, another ball handler would be nice.

Show young Gavin some film of a couple of guys named Alonzo and Dikembe co-existing - then having great careers in The League.

well, as far as that quote goes...he said he messed up in what he was trying to say. Tyler being a Hoya is only a positive.
I'll have an interview up later tonight.

Intrigued by this guy as well. To be honest I think it may be tough to take both him and Bolden. But based on what's out there it seems like Ware is the superior player right now with Bolden maybe having the higher ceiling. Ware may be better than any of the 3 big guys we have committed right now (2011 and 2012) yet somehow he may not get an offer.
Or maybe he will/has. Looking forward to the interview.

believe this is a free article rivalshoops.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1202481"It is mostly the same and it hasn't become a hard decision yet," said Ware. "It is still Georgetown, Mississippi State and Alabama on me the most. With Georgetown, it would be a good opportunity with their tradition with big men. Plus they are up North and have that basketball tradition where schools in the South are all about football. Mississippi State is close to home and I live a few minutes from campus. I wouldn't have to take a lot of flights, obviously, back home to see my parents.

Description of his play this weekend at King James Classic from Scout:
Gavin Ware, PF/C, Southern Phenoms – A big body down low, Ware showed touch out to 15 feet with the jump shot and was able to convert around the rim in traffic. He is slightly undersized for the position and not super explosive, but Ware does find a way to make an impact on the game. He is still working to completely recover from an injury, but overall it it was a solid effort from Ware who did the dirty work down low for the Phenoms.
Now listing Mississippi State, Georgetown, Alabama, Georgia Tech, Georgia, Tennessee, and Oklahoma.
I think the first 3 all the only ones in play.

Had a really nice weekend at TOC. Top 75 Big Man. We lead, with Mississippi State and Bama in the hunt. twitter.com/#!/NorthstarBball/status/74639128683225088 I would take him for sure if it meant getting Pollard too. I'd take him anyway and develop a triumverate of Adams and Ayegba. Has a huge personality - true leader.

Really like everything I read/see about Ware. If he's known as a leader, even better.

I think that there are way better big men in the class of 2012. If we're looking to fill a scholarship with one, I think our sights should be set higher than Ware. It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out, given how many reputable players we're pursuing

We aren't getting Drummond and we aren't getting Parker. As far as I'm concerned Ware is the best available big guy that we have a real chance to land, and has been since our first choice (Ochefu) went off the board. I think if we miss on Ware the pickings start to look pretty slim, and we'll have to decide between taking a flier on a big who is a little more under-the-radar, or hoping we can ride for a year with a rotation of Lubick/Hopkins/Bolden/Adams/Ayegba up front and waiting until 2013 to bring in a big guy (there seem to be more good options for us in that class right now, but there usually are at this stage).

I agree RB, seems as if the dream/wish of Drummond/Parker is fading. Not much left. Ware also could play some 4 and be in rotation at the 5 as well. Now, that said, what do you do with Anya or Meeks (who Hoyas are reportedly leading for as well) in 2013? We all know that Noel is your 5 for 2013 and has consistently listed Hoyas at the top of his list.
2013 also has Al Freeman, Troy and Britt at the 1-2-3 spots; all of which are high on GU radar.
I love the options
