Wichausen was wrong--the official raised his arm to make a call under hoop--but he nodded in agreement with charge call that Wichausen thought was wrong. Doesn't Wichaused call Jets games? Maybe he liked their FOOTwear more then Hoyas. Just saying......
Loved the composure the team showed tonight--and the fact guys are accepting roles and being unselfish. That is key to making a championship run in any sport--knowing when you are called to be ready--but also for the guys who are coming off bench/not playing as much as starters---developing/understanding that their time will come--not just in a game/season but in future too. Best thing about the team I've seen so far--the unity/support for each other.
Already lauded Benimon and Vaughn in other threads--so focus has to be on the level of play that Austin Freeman brought tonight. That was as fine of a game in terms of leadership you can get--under control-but aggressive. Great decision making, and knowing when team needed something--to provide it.
Chris Wright made the press irrelevant---and for that-he deserves great credit. Loved his defensive effort/leadership in 2nd Half as well--the Georgetown rotations in 2nd Half were best they've shown all year. Guys talking on defense, rotating/covering for teammates and scrambling--beautiful to watch--and then TEAM REBOUNDING which lead to breaks/easy looks.
Wrote that I want Henry to DUNK the ball more--and Julian too--in other threads--but Chris--for the love of all things Cousy......PASS THE BALL on the 3/4 on 1 plays!!! The pass was there to not just drop it off to Austin-but for Freeman to throw it down on Memphis--and instead it ended up in a break for them--but great hustle by Vee/Henry to save a hoop. Just know that isn't/can't be how breaks are run--for a player as good as Wright is/has to be.
Hoya defensive effort in 2nd Half is what will be needed rest of way out--it's time to make this a special season and not just settle for great--and defensive effort/hustle will be the ticket to doing this--offensively Georgetown is with anyone--above most as they have firepower/scoring all over the place, but it's on the defensive end--if they play with intensity/effort that we all witnessed in 2nd Half--this team is going to have a special season ahead! Just feel confident/believe in them-and have to say that it's more then possible. Won't be easy--and have to keep fighting/sticking together when things look bleak--but keep believing in each other and talking--on defense, offensively this program is tremendously unselfish, and has great chemsitry--but defensively in that 2nd Half--it showed the level they are more then capable of playing at effort wise!
Know some are upset about the missed FT's--but thought most of those shots looked good--just didn't fall-and rather they not fall in a 17 pt win then in South Bend next week.
Gotta hand it to Chris Crawford of Memphis--everytime he shot the ball it looked good--what a fine shooter and bright future he has--I liked his game/temperment best of the young players--but Will Barton is going to be a great one too--just needs to hit the weightroom.
Vee's signature "floater" was sweet--as was his 3 upon entry into the game. That was some Vinnie "Microwave" Johnson stuff tonight!
Markel Starks--good defense and loved the FGA-thought it was down for him--but tough break just glad he took the shot.
Nate-kind of like the Temple game-but he made impact on boards and had one really good hard foul--and a cheapy FR foul--he'll learn. Despite getting his shot blocked in 1st Half-he went to the cup strong and guy just threw it back--happens. Just like Hollis getting destroyed on that dunk--at least he was challenging/playing aggressive--which is better then standing and watching. Didn't get "small" after that either--answered--good to see.
Jason Clark was quiet--but thought he had a great defensive game--and was robbed of some minutes with 2 steals being called fouls. Also loved his "floater" late in game and idea to throw lob to Julian--who should've thrown that down.
III/Staff's adjustments have been oustanding. Just so much more enjoyable to watch more players involved, a faster pace, and belief in the team--it's great for morale and you get more out of practice--which leads to better peformance in games. Guys know they might stay in the game/get more run if they play well and it's being rewarded. Tough thing to do--and it was my biggest criticism--so I applaud the change as many say they will-but don't pull the trigger.
Now it's BIG EAST PLAY and can't wait!!!
