Except that the 5-19 guy apparently turned out to be a pretty good hire. ;D I'd disagree - that Cam Newton guy turned out to be a pretty good hire. Point taken.

No comments yet from the board's resident Minnesotan on an article accusing the U of "Florida-style" racism? What gives?

If anyone watched the abomination that was Randy Shannon on the sideline---and didn't think he deserved to be fired--they should've seen his "CIA" approach to community relations that didn't allow access to the program/promote the program--and resulted in the much needed non alums to attend games staying home or finding other things to do. Miami will never draw what big/public universities draw--but on their "bad" days--they'd be around 40-45,000. Shannon was getting about 12-15,000 fans to USF game on SR day. He handled the media poorly, handled the program poorly, always blamed his assistants, utilized timeouts as if he were an NFL coach--loved his "defensive timeouts" which was magnified in last game he coached when 3rd quarter ended--and USF had ball--official blew whistle to signify end of quarter and the ENTIRE DEFENSE turned and waved off/threw arms up in disgust thinking "Radio" had called another timeout--which often resulted in nothing but opposing team getting a key 1st down, TD, or game changing play.
Shannon did himself in--his team has ball on 1 yd line up 7 against USF in the 3rd quarter, facing a walk on True FR QB---and Canes throw a fade on 3rd and goal--then kick a FG on 4th--and USF proceeded to dominate the game from there---as his game management was atrocious.
This was Sylvester Croom-like disaster--and only positives to be taken-he did a wonderful job off the field and was a good recruiter--but the results didn't match the talent and his ability to hire/keep a staff together was hurt by his meddling in too many areas/not letting guys do their jobs.

RDF, do you really think he was a good recruiter or was it just that he was in a great spot to recruit. I haven't paid close attention to UM enough to judge the classes themselves aside from the successes or lack thereof on the field. Did he do an above average job of recruiting kids aside from the obvious draw of south Florida talent?

Did he do an above average job of recruiting kids aside from the obvious draw of south Florida talent? He can recruit---the amount of players who are not just playing/but starting in the NFL off Miami's GARBAGE ERA--part Clappy/Part Shannon is unreal--now that speaks volumes on the coaching staff if you ask me--that they have material that is worthy of playing Professional FB--but they don't do much at Miami. Shannon did get better players then Clappy was/would've gotten. He returned Miami to days of getting real talent and not "star ranked players" off the recruiting lists--which are often overhyped based on winning teams showing interest-instead of whether or not they can play. Miami's FR class is really strong---Golden should really benefit from that group but Miami should benefit more from Golden's organization and ability to develop a team. If a guy can take Temple to a bowl game and go 8-4 this year with that talent--he shouldn't have a problem winning 10 games with talent Shannon left behind.

On a slightly related note, Florida's OC/OL coach has been selcted to replace former Coach Holden who left to coach the Miami Hurricanes. There is a press conference tomorrow to announce the hiring of Adazzio as the next leader of the Owls. From my perspective, good riddance.
