Hoyas suddenly tentative... not good.
Doris Burke becoming more annoying with each passing minute.

Seriously, does Doris ever just let us watch the game?

Hoyas suddenly tentative... not good. Doris Burke becoming more annoying with each passing minute. Of course, she was just waiting for that 14-2, 19-0, 16-0 run

Frankly, Doris has enough basketball knowledge to be able to call a game without openly rooting. That's all you can ask, but apparently that is too much.

Nice game by the Hoyas, but they let UConn take control in the second half.
Doris Burke nauseating. "Gino Auriemma had to be magnificent and was?" Please.
Great effort but nearly impossible to beat UConn when Sugar goes 3-17.
Congrats to the women on an outstanding season.

Sad turnaround. The ladies played great, but with 7 minutes left or so, the energy and momentum shifted to UConn, and we never got it back.

They stopped attacking on offense and UConn, to their credit, tightened up on defense.

Agreed. Nice game by the Hoyas. But you can't win with almost no FGs over the last 10 minutes of the game. But really liked the effort from the team.

Good effort by the lady hoyas, definitely made the school proud. Isn't it just typical though. On the verge of a big upset, can't find the shot to really put you over the top. I feel like I've watched this game on both sides mens and womens over and over and over. Don't really understand why announcers and such are so gaga over UCONN. This is why no one cares about Women's college basketball because its so dominated by 3 or 4 teams every year. Would have been nice to see this upset for our program.
Anyway, on to next year and new ways to feel the heartbreak from the hoyas.

Also - props to the school/AD for getting a nice crowd of Hoyas there for the game today.

Let's face it, WCBB is all about UConn. I dont think the post-game from ESPN even mentioned what team UConn just played. Congrats to the ladies! Great season.

Exactly. had DVR on pause for a second and rewound just see if they even mentioned us. No props for Coach Williams-Flournoy at all. Joke. Thanks for a great ride ladies!!! Thanks to all those who made the ride to Philly. Sounded like a great crowd!

Can you imagine if something like that was playing out in the men's sport? a la Arizona (5) vs Duke(1). The announcers were loving the upset and praising Arizona. If only womens basketball announcers could have been a little more impartial, the game would have been more fun to watch

Frustrating to play so well for so much of the game and not be able to close it out. Still, a great season for the Hoyas -- and a lot to build upon in the coming years.
Oh, and Geno Auriemma is looking more and more like a mountain troll as the years progress.

I think "building" is an appropriate word for the team. After all, this is a team that's won five NCAA games in 41 years, versus a UConn program that has won 7 national titles.
Outside of campus, who knows much about Georgetown? Not many. Georgetown barely broke 1,000 a game this season (with visitors making up a sizeable portion of the crowds) while UConn averages 9,000 a game and its game at McD was the second smallest crowd they had faced all season. The Huskies have their own statewide TV contract, while the most coverage GU got before the NCAA's was the City Paper's rant on the coach's recruiting of black student-athletes. ESPN wasn't going to give Georgetown equal billing in this game any more than they would if USC met Wake Forest in a bowl game.
If Georgetown wants to be a national program in women's BB, they need to build for it--maybe the program needs to put down the deposit and get a game at Verizon, for instance (GU-UConn men's/women's doubleheader, anyone?), promote games beyond the confines of the Leavey Center, or actually sell season tickets and not just walk-ups that mistake the McD concession window for the ticket window. Secondarily, they need to significantly increase fundraising. Women's basketball lags behind every sport at GU, including other women's sports, and has never connected with its alumnae base.
With track struggling to maintain its national presence and men's lacrosse in a ongoing decline over the last few years (good thing RDF is not a lacrosse fan or his head would have exploded in recent years), is women's basketball the next "national" sport to contend at Georgetown?

What makes sports great, more specifically, what makes March Madness is great, is the Madness part. Your points about building our program notwithstanding (that's a different matter), I just thought it was lame that ESPN did nothing to appreciate the game that was unfolding. Gtown beating UConn in the sweet 16 is probably bigger than VCU beating Kansas to make it to the Final Four. Yet, the tenor of the broadcast was all about UConn deciding to play better down the stretch and win. It's fine by me, but as was said above, that's women's basketball - it's all about 3-4 programs being really impressive.

Great effort by the female hoyas there intensity and defense is a testament to there head coach. The hoyas are exactly the type of team that can give UCONN fits.
You have to give UCONN credit when the game was on the line they put together one of there patented runs and made the shots they had to make to win.
The lady hoyas are in great shape in coming years I think they return most of this years important players... Always next year.
