He adds a 6'10" Top 20 Center to his 2011 Class.
So he has:
5 Star C Pelle 3 4 Star Wings in Harkless, Pointer and Sampson 1 4 Star and 1 3 Star SG in Harrison and Lindsey
plus another 3 star SF this year.
So, that's a lot of wings. They need a point, but that's a great job of getting talent.
Course, that was never his issue.

He'll "coach" that group up to .500 in the BE.
Actually, once everyone in SoCal realized what a dunderhead Lavin was, he stopped getting talent. He left the cupboard at UCLA completely bare.

Good - we need a strong SJU team in the Big East.

Where is pelle ranked a 5-star? I agree with others; let's see him coach them up. Of course he's got Keady as an advisor so he'll at least look like he knows what he's doing.

Every year it's "St. John's or Rutgers or Providence or Seton Hall is going to be good" and every year they all stink. I'll believe it when I see it.

Dhall, considering we have lost to all of them in the last 2 years, except PC, I am not going to be so bold in my statements about them "stinking."
If you are denying the progress that is obivous at RU and SJU in recruiting than you have your head in the sand. I want them both to be strong, just not at GU's cost.

I'll take my head out of the sand when any of these teams finish in the top 6 of the Big East, which has not happened since Seton Hall finished a proud 6th in 2003-2004 I believe. Pathetic.

I agree that strength throughout the league is a plus. I also agree that Lavin and Rutgers APPEAR to be bringing in guys that will move their programs ahead. But DHall is right - we have heard this all before, I'll wait a couple of years, see who stays and how they develop, before I believe.

I hate it when our fanbase acts arrogant....Dhall, there is no need to turn your nose up at them.....they are making progress, especially st. john's and rutgers....we went through the esh era when we were have nots...let's not act like we're above people

I don't think he was being arrogant - just not ready to presume that one year of recruiting success guarantees anything.

And to be clear, I question Lavin's coaching ability as well. But it's a really nice class for them and a good start.
Rutgers, on the other hand... I guess it's a nice class for them. But they have recently had three top 50 players (Mike Rosario, Corey Chandler, Greg Echenique) and a borderline NBA player in N'diaye. Their recruiting was uneven, but the level of talent they have won't be unprecedented. And Rice will lose all momentum if he can't win.

As has been pointed out, we've lost to all those teams in the last two years...no need to point anything out about them not being good...

I guess I do not get it. We LOST to all of these "terrible" teams. So by criticizing these "have nots" what does that say about us?
I do agree with questions about Lavin's coaching but his staff is very good and could carry him this time around. Also, SJU should be an NCAA team this year and they have us in the Garden.
As for RU, they will struggle this season and likely next as they get all those kids in working order, but they will probably play harder under Rice and we know that can lead to Ws, when the "better" teams take them lightly.

Yes, that's it, we lost to them so we can't criticize a Rutgers or SJU for having been just terrible programs over the past few years. Now, can the Hoyas start hitting some outside shots against ODU...

I hope SJU loads up. I want every talented player who does not sign with the Hoyas to end up in the Big East. And with SJU being a key GU rival, their progress is important for us. We want GU-SJU games to draw national attention, and for that to happen, we need SJU to improve.

Next year Lavin could have trouble handling all those egos developing at the same time and wanting to show off.
