Let me start some controversy by claiming that Sapp is for some reason the most overrated Hoya "legend" since Joey Brown. I don't hate Jesse and I think he was for one season at least a good player. But many Hoya fans shower him with praise that I don't feel is deserved. He wasn't all that great at ball-handling, shooting or passing which might be okay if you were like a 7'7 center. But Jesse was a guard. His defense was alright. His level of toughness is debatable. And most importantly during his senior season when the Hoyas NEEDED a senior who was a returning starter to step up his game, Jesse was M.I.A. Even before the alleged locker room incident Jesse was not getting it done for the team. Ultimately he lost his starting position (people can debate why this happened but regardless the fact is he did lose it).
From all accounts Jesse was a good guy who represented GU well. And he graduated. And he is playing well over in Europe. Congrats to him. But if Jabril's coach is talking up Jabril that much I hope he shows us Hoya fans a lot more than having "some Jesse" in him. No offense to anyone out there who feel different. That's simply my take.
Sorry for hijacking this thread.
MOD NOTE: Topic drift and ensuing posts moved from Trawick Recruiting Board thread into this new thread.

I don't share the same level of vitriol as MCI, but I mostly agree with his points on Jessie Sapp. That said, I don't think he is lionized much at all on this board or the greater Hoya community. Much like DaJuan, i feel like he is basically forgotten. Critiques of Sapp's game aside, I admit I don't see the Trawick-Sapp comparisons at all. They have completely different body types. That is also solely based on the 6 minutes of clips I've seen of Trawick.

well, considering that I don't think Jessie ever dunked in his career as a Hoya, I'd say he and Jabril are a bit different. And as for Jessie's senior season, very disappointing. The fight, from numerous sources, did happen, and the chemistry between he and Chris absolutely wrecked the season. You have to side with Chris on that point for the simple reason that he was by far the better player. Jessie could've been a J-Wallace kind of leader, but chose not to...uggghhhh, hate just thinking about that season

I hate thinking about the last 3 seasons. Davidson. NIT. Ohio. Ouch, ouch, ouch.
We're due to exceed expectations this year.

The Jessie comparison certainly is not a perfect one, but jessie brought a certain toughness/moxy that jabril is described as having. Their similiarites might be described in one word....onions!

Sapp's JR year he was the best guard on a team that won the BE regular season - the guy was also unbelievably clutch that year. He had 15 pts and 8 assists against UNC in the biggest win in the JTIII era. The guy had a horrible senior year but I would consider his overall career at Georgetown to be a huge success.

Look what I've done. I've sent this thread off track. Sorry, Big Mike, but Jesse having two or three big moments in his junior season does not make him "unbelievably clutch". He wasn't any more clutch than Jon, Roy or Pat that season IMO. While I tend to disagree with those who feel Jon was the MVP for the Hoyas that season, I will at least give Jon props for the being the best guard for the Hoyas that year, not Jesse. As far as I'm concerned by the time the season was closing Jesse was barely holding off Austin for the #2 ranking as best Hoya guard. Sure Jesse's junior season was his best season but that's still not saying much. Heck, he was a starting shooting guard and an upperclassmen who wasn't able to average double figures in scoring. And he could not pass. He couldn't pass on the move, he couldn't create for teammates and he was horrible at throwing entry passes in the paint to guys like Roy. Without a doubt his performance against UNC as a soph was stellar. But I recall Jon and DaJuan having arguably their best games on that day as well. One game does not make a career though and I can't consider Jesse's time at GU to be a "huge success" because of it. I will at least say this of Jesse....I think he would have been the best guard on the Hoya team during Mourning's final two seasons, especialy in JT II's less structured offense. He would have been a better fit than he was in III's offensive system. Okay, enough hijacking. I will try to let that be my last word on this subject in this thread. I hope.

I can understand why the mods transferred this discussion. But I'd rather they close this thread down entirely because it seems wrong to make it appear (unintentionally) as if a thread had been started on the forum just for the purpose of bashing Jesse. That wasn't my intent.

Jesse was a role player for us; in his last season he was asked to lead the team, something he was not ready to do and he failed.
I don't think anyone has overstated what he has done for us (a couple of career games) but at the same time, I don't believe people have the same bad taste in their mouth that they have for DaJuan.
It was disappointing that Jessie didn't do well but I am just as interested in his professional career as most of JTIII's graduates (and Jeff and Greg)
Agreed with MCI though, this isn't really a discussion that needs to be had.
