I am going to defend Enj here. He's got every right to feel this way and not be "sold". I've enjoyed this season more--and if I were to try and sell Enj on why this group is different-it's a return to what worked. Look at roster composition and style of play that is taking place over the record of team. I agree that Hoyas aren't a great team yet--despite their record but I've enjoyed this group as much as any team we've seen the last 3 years because they are more like what III had that won/competed for championships. It's deeper, more athletic, and most importantly defends. We've not seen a Hoya team defend like this since '08. Now to aid Enj's skepiticism--that team flopped in a manner that was disheartening, so if he wants to see the results before he's completely bought in-so be it.
As for Calipari--people can take all the shots they want and a lot of their dislike is more then warranted-but to say he can't coach is a joke. Guy is one of the best coaches in country and if you think having talented guys is easy to win with--you're ignoring the ability he has as a coach. He gets the "1 and done lottery picks" to be unselfish, play hard/as a team and they buy into what he's telling them. That's coaching. He's also not afraid to let them show their talent--which is what you do when you have great talent--let them decide your fate instead of hindering them. That is the #1 reason these kids go to Kentucky and UNC and want to go there--style of play. If you play like USF and want to cheat (and they cheat--Gus Gilchrist situation about as dirty as it gets) why don't elite players line up to play there?
It comes down to this--Georgetown program is back on rise and record wise-I think they've played over their heads a bit-but love it. Also happy III's been rewarded by Hoops "gods" for returning to a bigger, athletic, interchangeable lineup and amazing how those tight games seem to go Hoyas way more often then not with that type of roster. However--you only get lucky so often and need to start playing better-and it's why I'm encouraged by this past week--and in Hoya history--I pay attention to a few things that seem to repeat time/time again.
Hoyas win over SJU at Garden-they have successful seasons/compete for championships. Hoyas play best ball in Feb/March with defensive minded teams Hoyas win BET-worst they finish in NCAA's is Elite 8
Now they've accomplished the first thing. Have played better so far in February with proving ground still ahead, and we'll see about last thing. Just know I've not said a peep this year because I knew I'd enjoy the season more then any since '08 due to the return of what worked for III. We're seeing the program on right track again/upswing so enjoy that Enj--but to act like he's got no reason to be cautious, that's not true-and maybe he feels if he says this--it's a "counter jinx". Either way--things are looking up and just hope the team keeps playing well and plays their best ball from here on out.

Tim Welsh said yesterday that it looked like III had the team "peaking at the right time." Before you discount that as a product of watching one 30 point win, Tim has done at least a couple of Hoya games this year.
It ain't the national championship, but it's sure a step in the right direction.

Man, it must suck to watch this team and think such negative thoughts that you need to derail a thread about a recruit to complain about it.
especially terrible to do so right in the middle of the team rallying after two subpar games to beat two teams relatively easily and see its defense rise all the way to #6 in kenpom's tempo-free ratings.
seriously, talk about glass-half-empty posting...

Brandon Bolden recently tweeted that he found out today that he made this year's Jordan Classic.
This is curious for a few reasons, one of which is that he is not on the roster that was announced last week, another of which is that DSR, who by most accounts is putting up 20+ points per game for the nation's best high school team seems not to have made the team, and that is more than BB can say (to put it nicely).
Perhaps Bolden made the 2012 Jordan Brand Classic regional team? Those rosters aren't yet announced on the JBC web site (http://www.jordanbrandclassic.com/Featured-News/2012-jordan-brand-classic-team-announced.html).

Is there regional games and a national game? Regardless, good for him. Hope that means we can see some more of him.

This kid seems somewhat delusional. I think this summer it is going to be time to wake up when he starts running against Moses, Adams, Lubick, Hopkins...

The proof is in the puttin? Really? You've never really answered why you are even watching the games right now if only the NCAA matters. Because I am a fan, and I stick by my team through thick and thin. And as RDF has pointed out, this squad appears different than the last 4 years. I sure hope they break this trend that has developed over recent years.

Eh I think we may have to reset expectations once the tournament starts. The talk about overachieving should stop once we get to the tourney. Once you're there, especially with a 5 or better seed which we will have, the expectation is that you win the first game. Period.

At the beginning of the season yes. Right now we are playing with house money, but the more they keep winning the more expectations will rise.

Losing in the 1st rnd is nolonger exceding expectations. This team by everyones account is at least top 20. I say top 10. My expectations are at least 1 tourney win and maybe 2...............depending on the draw..........

I agree with this to an extent, but match-ups do matter in a single game elimination. If we run into the tournament's annual buzzsaw again (VCU, Davidson, etc), I am just not sure I can say we underachieved. In the good old days when double-digit seeds stunk, I would agree, but there is too much parity now. If it is a replay of Ohio, forget about it, I will be a zombie for a few days. So while, I agree if we are a top 5 seed we should be held accountable for at least one W, I will say there are mistakes made in seeding that the Hoyas cannot control.

Coincidentally enough, Bolden/Quality Education Academy have a couple games this week-end in DC in a fairly high profile national tourney. Some details below on this link (last para mentions QEA/Bolden). Will leave to others finding out particulars re: game times, etc. Hopefully some of the Faithful cogenescenti can check him out doing something and report back (as opposed to doing nothing on the court, or bench for that matter). www.ihigh.com/planetathlete/article_109125.html
