Definitely not deja vu at the end. Last year it would have been more of the same, but it seems as if there were some long passes, etc. Poor Kenny Mitchell; he could have benefited with this kind of play, being the fastest guy in the PL the last three or four years.

That. Was. Fun. Looks like a totally different ballgame out there.
Matt MacZura looks like he has the makings of a truly worthy successor to Brad "Brad Brad Brad" Scoffern.
Statistics (per the worldwide LDR) are ridiculous:
1st downs: Lafayette 31, Georgetown 13 Total Yards: Lafayette 509, Georgetown 265 Passing Yards: Lafayette 343. Georgetown 172 Rushing Yards: Lafayette 166, Georgetown 93 Time of Possession: Lafayette 40:13, Georgetown 18:47

Congrats to the Hoyas, esp. the seniors. These wins have been a long time coming.

"First time since..." stats abound! A few good ones already mentioned above by Dan. Two more that will be satisfying as they come to pass in 2 weeks, although the stats themselves are mind-boggling in a way: Regardless of what happens next week at Yale... --This will be the first time since 1999 that GU will have a winning record for the Homecoming game (5-0 going into that game vs. Davidson). --Homecoming 2010 will be only the third time since 2000 that GU plays a home game while having a winning record (1-0 on 9/11/04 vs. Lafayette and 2-1 on 9/30/00 vs. Fordham) I point out these things not to be a buzzkill--actually, the opposite. I still (for some reason? ;D ) care about GU football getting any kind of foothold among the alumni and especially student communities. And for all the effort and words put in to figuring out why that hasn't happened in the last decade, the obvious answer of course is: the football team is always losing. Well, in two weeks here's the best chance we've had in probably 10 years to make something of this...ain't going to get any better than (1) an opening game (fools the freshmen!); (2) Homecoming; (3) a decent opponent; (4) HOLY MOTHER OF GOD THE FOOTBALL TEAM HAS WON TWO (OR THREE) GAMES ALREADY! [Esherick] Other than that, I'm very pleased with our effort today[/Esherick] MIRACLES!!! F'N MAGNETS! HOW DO THEY WORK? Print these on a GU football themed shirt and I buy one, instantly. Heck, if GU football's bringing 1999 back, might as well go as a Juggalo.

Reactions from patriot league fans: Fordham: Oh My Lord Georgetown won a GAME Holy sheeeeot... Gtown beat laffayette.. Congrats georgetown u deserve it... I see u baby
Holy Cross: What is more surprising, that Lafayette lost to Georgetown, or that Georgetown actually scored 28 points?
WOW!!!
lafayette:
"Terrible loss. Georgetown is probably the least talented team we will face all year, so 4 wins may be a stretch at this point. I dont really even know what to say. "
"C'mon, Andy, we need a warmup game for Georgetown? Who are you talking to? Georgetown is and should be that soft opener."
"Point is, Georgetown is not a "gamble." Short of scheduling a convent, there should be no easier opener, League, non-League, or a team from Mars. "

Not that the Hoyas need any more bulletin board material after the last few years, but if the disrespect keeps coming from PL fans, here's hoping the boys will shut a bunch more of them up by the time this season ends!

Wonder if anyone from Hoya Blue could shed light on whether there is budding interest on campus? Maybe we can get a legitimate student crowd on a game by game basis this year.

Just watched the 2nd Half on MASN's replay of the game. It's so obvious that the offense is exponentially better than last year. Also, very impressed w/ the athleticism by the Hoya D. Forced some great turnovers. Also, hats off to our Punter. After a rough 1st half (per annoncers & stats), he pinned the Leopards deep at least twice on crucial occasions.
Congrats Coach Kelley! & Of course to the rest of the staff & the TEAM!!!!!!!

I only saw the tail end of the game on MASN, but it seems like we still have a lot of room for improvement which is good. We can become even better than we are right now.

That was a fantastic game to watch. It really felt great to watch a COMPETITIVE team out there on the field. Exponentially more importantly, I hope it felt great for the current players to be a part of it.
Also, I NEVER expected to have this feeling, but I noticed lots of new folks on the bandwagon on the message board. First time I've been able to think to myself, in a bitter sweet way "I watched them every week, even when they stunk...where were you newcomers?"
Who cares - welcome aboard, newbies. Don't forget to open your wallets - the basketball team doesn't need your cash, the football program does!

Don't forget to open your wallets - the basketball team doesn't need your cash, the football program does! If you actually took the time to look and see who these "newbies" are you'd realize that they are all die-hard Georgetown supporters who have been here for a long time, many of us have just been so disgusted that we have chosen not to post on this board, but that doesn't mean we haven't been following. A lot of these people you call newbies are people I've been to countless Georgetown Football games with and have been hoping for a positive sign like this to give them a reason to believe. Finally, the football program could use more support, but the basketball program certainly DOES need your cash if we want to continue competing at a national level. There's no need to encourage support of the football program at the expense of basketball, let's support both.

Wow. Pretty defensive there, chief.
Perhaps sarcasm doesn't come across well on the internet...or perhaps you really are defensive.
Smile. And donate. To Football.

No, sarcasm doesn't come across well on the internet, but that's irrelevant here. There is no Georgetown Football bandwagon, anyone that even takes a minute out of their day to read something on this board, let anyone post something, is as close as we have to a fanbase. Maybe I am pretty defensive, but you shouldn't make comments that disparage the few people who care enough to follow this team. Anyway, Go Hoyas, and donate to Georgetown!

No bandwagon? Come on. GUHoya, of your 4000 posts, how many have been on the football board? The only one I can remember before this week is the one you posted last season where you said the football program only served as a hindrance to the basketball program.
