So I came to the game fired up to yell and cheer on Sunday and that was not alcohol induced.
After the Hoyas gave me little to cheer about in first half, we began to make a run and got within 6 or 8. As I was standing up cheering, three hoyas fans behind me asked me to sit down. Keep in mind I was only standing up as we made a steal and were moving the ball down the court so I was probably up for about three seconds (literally). WOW!
I know I was in the old fart section but what the hell are people thinking? This is another reason that they should move these people around to the sides and have the students in the middle (or put these people in the 200's). I am thirty and while I may not be the loudest fan, I still like to cheer from time to time.
This was a critical game at a critical juncture and I was being asked to sit down. Pathetic!

I feel you, Columbia Heights.
I think maybe they should convert the YA section into the "standing room only" section- get people like us down low where we can cheer and not offend the whine and cheese set.

I feel your pain, you would be surprised how often that happens at so many college sporting events, not just pro. Off campus arenas just attract that casual, lazy fan that would rather criticize a person than move their fat head to the side. I actually saw the same thing happen down here at UNC, despite popular belief, its still the wine and cheese crowd.

As a thirty year old with 2 season tickets in Section 111 I am often confronted with the passive aggressiveness of the wine and cheese crowd. At least three times a game some stuffy polo shirt wearing snob turns around when I stand to cheer on my beloved hoyas. I want to remind them that this is a college basketball game, where fan support and passion is not only desired but encouraged. I wish I could invite them to go back to whatever cul-de-sac they came from but I show incredibly restraint.
I would happily give up my prime seats to the student section. At the very least, the student section should be on the side of the court across from the team benches. I am also disgusted with the relative ease that opposing fans are able to procure prime seats in my section.
I am proud of the way the Hoyas have played this year. Although I will be disappointed if we do not make the NCAA tournament I am excited about the future and plan to get two additional season tickets next year.

I mean, as opposed to the whine-and-cheese elitists that it is now? Come on YB, the YA section is standing for the majority of the game. Some of our most talented and knowledgable fans sit there with us - don't sell anyone short in that section. There are very few people there who don't love the Hoyas as much as the rest of us - there's no need to call out people there. Direct your frustrations elsewhere please.

The problem is not confined to GU or to off campus arenas. While watching the Pitt game Saturday, it was apparent that they have a similar problem on the side court area behind the benches and the scorer's table where they have rows of seats backed up by some luxury suites. Those people look like they're asleep half most of the time. You could hear the Pitt students and sometimes see them on the other side of the court, but the TV cameras only showed the "sleepers" the majority of the time. It's weird to hear a lot of noise but only see the fans who look like they're half asleep. On another note - I travel over a 1,000 miles several times a year to use my seats, I'm almost 60 years old and I ain't sittin' down for nobody.
