So I was in the student section for the Nova game (ID is still valid and couldn't get seats anywhere else), and let me preface this by saying that anything I say does not apply to student section as whole, just to the guys in the row in front of me.
That said, I feel MCI security might harsh out on the student section for the Providence game, and I think everyone should know why.
There were a row of mostly male students in front of me (I was about 7 rows back from the court) who's behavior was absolutely abhorrent and embarassing to the school. These guys felt that calling the Villanova players "f-ggots" was the best taunt they could throw out there. They apparently felt there were the Cheering Police, as they yelled at my friends and others for not cheering enough, which really meant not following the cheers they started (sorry, I don't think we need to chant "Defense" when Sumpter's making a free throw). And most horrifically, they felt they had a right to trash the chairs at the MCI Center.
As it was obvious we were going to lose, these guys began taking out their frustrations on the nearest chair, with the intent of breaking every one they could find. Guys got up and jumped on seats, they pulled the chairs from one another and tossed them about. When my friend told them to stop and that they were embarassing the school, we were met with rage and a weird sense of entitlement. One guy said to us "Sit through this for 4 years and see how you react." Never mind the fact that I've sat through this for 7 years, it's still not an excuse to be a jackass. The others were satisfied simply to try and goad us into a fight, in a very drunk-frat-boy kind of way. Luckily, we left without incident.
I'm sorry if this seems like a rant, and I'm not trying to harsh on the student body as a whole, but stupid like this Editedes me off to no end. I understand you're frustrated with the losses, so am I. But maybe it's time to put down the beer and destructiveness and realize that it's just a basketball game.
