Guys i'm awfully tired of getting lip service from McDonalds All-Americans about Georgetown 'being in the race.' When are we going to win one of these damn battles?! Greg Monroe says hi.

We don't win these recruiting battles because we run a clean program. Hoping NN appreciates that and chooses us.

So let me get this straight... 1. Noel has claimed Errol Randolph is his mentor regarding his recruitment 2. Errol Randolph is a Syracuse fan from Boston who worked at Everett prior to Nerlens transferring to Tilton. 3. Errol moved to Miami. 4. Noel just flew to Miami for a few days (around March 17-20) 5. He took a picture with Errol's kid and posted it on Twitter (so presumably he was with Errol for at least part of the trip) 6. Errol's linkdin page claims he is a "self employed basketball manager" 7. The "Company Website" link on Errol's linkedin page goes to ASM Sports. 8. ASM Sports is sports agency based out of New Jersey with an office in Atlanta. 9. Pete Thamel is either a complete idiot or there is a reason he did not disclose more about Errol's relationship to Noel. There are a few things that wonder about this whole situation. First, I understand Errol is a Syracuse fan but is he considered a Booster? Second, who paid for Noel's flight to Miami this past weekend? Third, what exactly does Errol do and why (of ALL the potential company websites) does he link ASM Sports in his linkedin page? I'm starting to worry not only that Noel may choose a school based upon "handlers"....but that even if he picked Georgetown (or anyone for that matter), his relationship with Errol could compromise his eligibility and prevent him from ever playing a game. The ASM Sports thing does seem odd. Thamel actually did a piece about ASM Sports last year... www.nytimes.com/2011/04/30/sports/ncaabasketball/30recruit.html?pagewanted=all

I saw the below tweet from a Syracuse source - is it true we got an afternoon visit in? Sounds like this race is coming to a close soon! Syracuse Basketball @psbasketball Syracuse coaches will conduct in-home visit with Nerlens Noel tonight. Kentucky visited on Tues. G'town slipped in visit this afternoon. MW When I heard about the in-homes for UK and Cuse, I was hoping that maybe we could sneak another visit in before NN made his decision. I think that the visit shows how much we are in this race and hopefully JTIII and Othella also brought some snippets of the news going on in Cuse throughout the year. Just so that NN's mother can make Boheim sweat a bit ;D.

Yeah, I don't really know what to make of all of this. Perhaps it's nothing. Maybe it's just amazing coincidence. But the relationship and role of this "basketball manager" creates a lot of smoke. Perhaps I'm naive and that doesn't really mean anything at all, but at what point does it all just start to stink a lot, even if he does pick us?

Better yet--email him and ask him why he did such a half assed job of researching his sources--and for a guy who wanted to throw innuendo at Calipari/CAA--then Randolph/ASM angle sure seems to fit same bill, with several examples that we've dug up within 10 minutes and posted all day. Pete sure seems to avoid getting involved in covering the problems/issues at Syracuse and for a guy who always wants to come off as the "Ethical Detective" of College Athletics--he sure seems to omit Syracuse from such scrutiny. ;D

There's plenty of stuff on cuse (Fine, drugs, Melo) publicly aired, so I'm not wearing this Randolph thing too much.

Don't email Thamel, email the NYT's public editor and ask them about it.

A "Booster" in the NCAA's eyes is anyone who has contact/donates money to the program. If you are a fan/never attended the school and donate money-you are a booster. If you provide benefits for athletes-like say a plane trip/lodging, etc...that's being a booster. Fact he contacts athletes from Syracuse and reached out to scumball Mike Hopkins as well, I'm sure it's just out of kindness of his heart and being a great fan.
Any of us can be listed as a "talent scout/evaluator". Hell it's pathetic how easy it is to get close to the athletes/families at AAU events--I sat on bench of several teams due to games being SRO and team didn't use all of their allotment of chairs. Could've talked to guys throughout if I wanted. It's that easy. You wait for shuttles they take back to hotels, etc..and low and behold a "contact" is made between agents/players and they work for certain schools.

Very mixed review of his freshman year by Nerlen's buddy at Syracuse, Michael Carter-Williams. Quotes: "Syracuse freshman guard Michael Carter-Williams recently told Boston Globe writer Julian Benbow that the season has been difficult at times because of his lack of playing time.
Carter-Williams hasn't seen action in the NCAA Tournament so far, and hasn't played more than 8 minutes in a game since Feb. 4, when he scored 13 points in 17 minutes against St. John's." and "Williams also talked about his relationship with Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim and the team's assistants:
“It’s tough now, because I don’t get a lot of playing time, so sometimes we don’t get along,’’ he said. “But I talk to the assistant coaches and they just tell me to stay patient and stay ready.
“You don’t know with Coach Boeheim if you’re going to play one game and play 20 minutes, then the next game you don’t get off the bench. It’s tough. You try to figure him out, but it’s tough.’’ He also said it was a "great experience" so it is a mixed message as I said. But certainly interesting reading from a guy whom a lot of us believe has a pretty big part to play in this recruitment. blog.syracuse.com/orangebasketball/2012/03/syracuse_basketball_links_mich.htmlHe was tweeting nonsense like "Free MCW" last week.

I have no idea what to make of this situation. I don't know if I should feel optimistic or not.

Man, the mood on this thread really soured quickly. Clearly, we are still in this race.
Just calm down people.
