Defense is ahead of offense. Needs to refine post-up moves. Has tried a hook shot, but it is delivered in weak manner. On the flip side, impressive ball handling and getting to the rim off the bounce. Makes me think he could do serious damage taking the ball at the top of the key in our offense and getting to the tin. He will be outrageous on the fast break either delivering or finishing. Could be a great zone buster working baseline and going over top with alley-oops. Great hops. Long wing span. Great timing. Quick ups. Everything you'd expect in a #1 recruit. I see him as a PF in the league. I'd say Anthony Davis was probably a slightly better overall recruit given that his offense was a little ahead of NN's at the same time. And remember, NN is coming a year early and would have had one more year to refine the offensive skill set and get a little stronger. Thanks for the scouting report. What about a Face up jump Shot?

I've seen him make it in some film, and even saw him swish a 3 after the whistle once. That said, it's certainly not smooth and would be unlikely to be a reliable weapon next year. I don't think I'd be comfortable with him taking that shot unguarded from the top of the key, the way I was with Henry. However, the kid has other-worldly athleticism and hands which make him a monstrous finisher around the rim. We just need to get him the ball in the right spots to score. He also flashes a surprisingly solid handle that makes me think he could pull off Henry's dribble drive type move on centers that float out to guard him on the perimeter. With his finishing ability, that move has the potential to be devastatingly effective. DEFENSIVELY, the kid is the real McCoy. He will be the best defensive player in the college game from the moment he steps on campus. He's a tremendous rebounder, who is more than capable of grabbing boards well out of his area. He has a fantastic "mean streak" mentality about protecting the paint. It's clear that he considers it a personal affront when someone tries to drive HIS lane and looks for a thunderous block that will intimidate his opponent for daring to enter his house. The best natural shot-blocker I've ever watched film on, and that certainly includes Anthony Davis.

I have heard a lot of people who believe UK has been the leader. Personally, I have always thought that Cuse was the team to beat in this recruitment. For Gtown, it all comes down to how much influence his mother has. We always seem to really make an impression on player's parents. If she has a lot of say in decision, he comes to us.

Let's not forget that he plays a role in his high school offense similar to what he would do here. I think he can be effective at the high post offensively, facilitating and getting assists. He has even played some point guard for Tilton. I don't think he's a bigtime scorer right now, but that doesn't mean he can't be an effective offensive player.

We're going into uncharted territory here past Kyle Anderson's thread record.

We're going into uncharted territory here past Kyle Anderson's thread record. Yeah, and I think it makes sense. By the end of this summer, it felt almost certain that Kyle wouldn't end up a Hoya. Too much buzz for the other schools on his list. On the other hand, I think there's actually a decent possibility that Nerlens will come to Georgetown. Its significantly more possible than a commitment from Kyle was. We're actually starting to see some buzz about our recruitment of Nerlens. Anyways, we should have the necessary 9 more pages by the end of the week.

A random phone call later, and its still as murky as ever. Direct info from a low-level assistant on Tilton's staff. Here is a paraphrasing of the convo with the previously mentioned assistants old college roommate and AAU coach in the northeast:
'He is Georgetowns to lose as of today. Dorcina loved the Georgetown staff and even Nerlens was caught off guard by how much he liked the staff and team members. If everything was equal, Nerlens would still pick Syracuse. But Dorcina doesn't like the publicity she heard from Syracuse this year and Nerlens liked Georgetown enough to go along with his moms feeling. Syracuse heard the Georgetown rumblings and insisted Nerlens come back home for their in-home. I am not really sure where Kentucky is in the process. He didn't seem wowed by his visit, and Dorcina isn't too big on Nerlens going down south, but a lot of people I trust think Cal will get it done again.'
I know this is nothing earth shattering, as to me it came across as anybody's race still, but that Gtown left an impression.

Interesting stuff. Sounds pretty much like you would would expect it to. Kind of sounds pretty much like we'd want it to also.

Seriously why would any big guy like Syracuse in the first place? Exactly.... Come to Syracuse where you can learn top play the middle of the zone (which you will never do in the NBA) and you will refine your post moves (which amount to a few alley-oops per game and the occasional fast break/put-back dunk). We have a long line of NBA big men with a great history....including, Derrick Coleman, John Wallace (oh, wait...forget him), Etan Thomas (wait, has he averaged more than 2ppg in a season?), Conrad McRae (Oops, sorry--he's dead), did I mention Derrick Coleman? At least we have a great big man coach in Berni......um, well, no he's not here anymore. But we have Gerry McNamara!!!

Seriously why would any big guy like Syracuse in the first place? This. Don't the kids and the parents see what's going on there? There's only one possible basis I can see for that decision, and I don't want to go there on a public message board.

To play devils advocate for a second: I believe he is friends with many of the Cuse players and their recruits next season. That can be a big thing, especially for a guy who is going to the league in a year.

He's a good friend of Michael Carter-Williams, who is a freshman on the current team.

Yea, I don't get the Cuse stuff beyond the fact he has a lot of friends on the team. Good to hear Nerlens loved the team and Georgetown in general. I kind of like that Coach Cal doesn't have the final in-home. It lets Boeheim muddy the waters and maybe make both in-homes less effective.

Total hunch. Think its a great sign that right after his visit with us he crosses two off and demands in-homes from the other 2. I think he's ours unless Calashadi or Beehime can convince his mother otherwise. Believe.
Otto and Greg and Jabril are ushering in a new era of long, rangy, gifted athletes. NN will follow.
