SU has tipped the balance in favor of so-called basketball-onlies in the Big East.

We'll see if Colgate takes two steps forward when the final score is posted. I'm not of the impression that another 61-7 drubbing at the hands of the Oranginas would not be a step forward for Colgate.

Here's why this is a win-win (even with a loss) for the Red Raiders:
1. It's probably the most publicity Colgate will receive since the 2003 NCAA playoffs and a chance for fans to see a big-time game with an established area rival. In DC terms, it's the equivalent of Georgetown playing Maryland.
2. ESPN3 has picked up the game for national TV. Not bad for a I-AA team.
3. Colgate will receive a guarantee in the neighborhood of $250-300K for appearing, and unlike many guarantees lost to paying for airline flights and overnight hotels for players and staff, they can bus in and out on the same day. That check buys a lot of financial aid buyouts.
4. Finally, in the midst of the upcoming PL scholarship vote, Colgate can reach out to its alumni and trustees and assuming that the Red Raiders haven't been obliterated (and given Syracuse's recent records, that's probably not going to happen) and tell them that if they added scholarships, more games like this could reenergize the fan base and the region, and bring in a few extra dollars in the process.

Okay, let's schedule Florida! Last year, I proposed scheduling only heavyweights, based on the idea that, if we were going to go winless, it might as well bring in tons of money for the athletic department. This idea was not received well.

Georgetown might fit that bill.
