Once again the SEC had the most players drafted in the NFL draft of any conference. The SEC had a whopping 49 players drafted this past week, easily outdistancing the next conference -- the Big "10", with 34 players taken. Over the past decade the SEC has averaged 37 players per year in the NFL draft and the Big "10"is second. I didn't hear the exact number. Not really a surprise ...

And the reason this little tidbit of useless trivia couldn't simply have been added to the already existing NFL draft thread is.......

Appreciate you, Hifigator. The southeast is football country. Other than Tennessee and Kentucky, the southern states are loaded with talent from peewee to junior pro, thru the mega highschools.

I was trying to beat my own chest a bit though. Just last football season, a handful here insisted on denying the SEC dominance as the best football conference, claiming that it was really nothing more than a media created image. When I pointted out that year in and year out the SEC has the most players drafted by the NFL and the most players on NFL rosters, a certain someone said something along the lines of "not this year." I'm just pointing out that once again, the SEC leads the way, and that it really wasn't close. And as for it being a temporary cycle, I saw where the SEC has had around 750 players drafted since 1990, 100 more than the next closest confernce, the Big 10. In any case, I wasn't trying to create clutter, but I was "obligated" to point this out.

Last 2/3 years the Pac 10 has had most on active NFL rosters--which surprises so many that dismiss the conference.

"most on active rosters" meaning what? I'm not arguing, just clarifying -- most players total on an active roster or most players from the past 2-3 years on an active roster?
In any case, your response indicates a degree of disagreement, as to the SEC being the best conference. I have been quite clear and vocal that the SEC is the best football conference and the Big East is the best basketball conference. Others have had different opinions, but I stand by mine.

Meaning, I believe the last 2-3 years there have been more players from Pac 10 on active NFL rosters then any other conference--which is impressive considering the amount of bashing the league gets from the "experts" during the year and how "easy" it is to play in the league. Getting drafted is great, staying on the team after final cuts is more important.

And you believe that, huh? Riiiiigggggghhht. Yeah, I'm pretty sure USC has more than that all by itself. Next time, try a legitimate source and not "wikianswers" which you very well could have created yourself in a pot-induced haze. espn.go.com/nfl/college

No one had answered that question yet, so I decided to have a little fun. But the original question was as I found it, granted I don't know how precise and accurate that answer is either. But I believe I did offer a tad more support than RDF who just made a totally unsubstantiated claim.

It wasn't bashing the SEC and it wasn't unsubstantiated--it was referring to the fact that I'd heard that prior to NFL season last year and year prior that Pac 10 had more players on active NFL roster then any conference.
Hifi--your response is why so many people despise not just you but SEC mentality. Where did I putdown the SEC? Just said I'd rather have the most players on an "active roster" then drafted as it's more important to make the league/team then to get drafted.

Ok, maybe I am missing something or maybe a post or more has been deleted by the grand high exalted powers that be. But in any case, RDF wrote:

Firstly: "it wasn't bashing the SEC" and "Where did I putdown the SEC?
Where did I -- or anyone else for that matter -- say either of these things? Here are all of my comments on this thread:
Once again the SEC had the most players drafted in the NFL draft of any conference. The SEC had a whopping 49 players drafted this past week, easily outdistancing the next conference -- the Big "10", with 34 players taken. If wikipedia is correct, the SEC led the way in both 2007 and 2008. There isn't an answer for 2009 posted there yet. But I will keep checking.
I also found this:
Yes, of course I posted that answer. No one had answered that question yet, so I decided to have a little fun. I'm not sure what comments you are responding to. I never said you were bashing the SEC or that you were putting the SEC down. I did respond to suggestions that the SEC wasn't the dominant conference -- now or in the past. I think it is quite clear that it is and has been.
Lastly, your last comment is this:
Hifi--your response is why so many people despise not just you but SEC mentality. Where did I putdown the SEC? Just said I'd rather have the most players on an "active roster" then drafted as it's more important to make the league/team then to get drafted.
My "response" of ... what exactly? My only response was that more players on NFL rosters are from SEC schools than any other conference. Granted, my support comes from Wiki, and that is admittedly questionable. But your support comes from ... your vague recollection. Sorry, but that is even more questionable. Now as to your suggestion that my response is "why so many people despise not just (me) but SEC mentality" ... I must ask for more clarification. The only logical interpretation is that the only "reason" is essentially that I am right, and you, as well as others, can't stand that. I can't say that I disagree with you, but I must say that I'm somewhat shocked, since that is what I have been saying all along. If that isn't what you meant, then please enlighten us all.
Finally, I thought I was quite clear in asking for a clarification of "last 2/3 years ..." the Pac 10 having more players on NFL rosters. I questioned both what you meant as well as the accuracy of your statement. From what I have found, my suspicions seem well grounded. If you have evidence to the contrary, please, as I asked before, enlighten us.
As with past discussions, I think it is quite clear that I have been quite logical in my statements, while you have taken a stance on much more tenuous ground. In any case, I have never suggested that being drafted is superior to making a roster. Your posts clearly suggest at least an implicit suggestion that while SEC players might be drafter more frequently/often, more Pac 10 plares are represented on NFL rosters. Both your premise and facts are wrong in my opinion.

you know you if you just type [.quote] then [./quote] at the end it would be easier to understand what you are saying. (Except take the .'s out).
