This week in Philly. A little preview of the Hoyas chances:
Georgetown, coached by Pat Henner, won the 4x8 twice this decade (‘02, ‘04), and the Hoyas were runnersup to Texas in that event last year. Three members of that group return – Toby Ulm, a junior from Great Britain; John Maloy, a senior from Shaker (N.Y.), and Theon O’Connor, a sophomore from Campion College (Jamaica). They will be joined by two graduate students, Alex Mason, 1:50 halfmiler from Arizona, and Andrew Bumbalough, 3:58 miler from Tennessee. Bumbalough, who missed last season due to injury, anchored Georgetown’s 4th-place DMR at Penn two years ago.
Lots of competition this year. Penn State is probably the favorite in the 4x800, but Oregon and Virginia will be tough too. Our best best is probably in the DMR, if Bumbi is race sharp for the mile. The lineup for the DMR will probably be Bean, Ulm, O'Connor, and Bumbi.

In the heats of the women's 4x100m relay the Hoyas broke the school record. Last week they ran 45.50; there is some difference on whether this was the school record, but today they ran 44.69, almost a second faster in the heat to finish 8th in the heats.
8 Georgetown 44.69 Sarah Wernik, Tenille Stoudenmire, Nene Kamate, Amanda Kimbers AM 3
They qualify for the championship of America finals tomorrow.

The women's DMR just finished. The Hoyas were in the top four at NCAA indoors, but Emily Infeld (and maybe Rene Tomlin) are redshirting, so the Hoyas finished 9th in 11:19.27. Tennessee won in about 10:54.
9 Georgetown 11:19.27 Avril Ogrodnick (3:30.38), Abigail Johnson (54.45), Rachel Schneider (2:08.49), Christine Whalen (4:45.97)

First leg killed us--anchor also could have been faster. Also in the 400 I suspect Abigail Johnson is not yet back to peak form If we added Tomlin/Infeld back we would have gotten 2nd or third. Good 800 run by Rachel Scheider.
We should be able to be in the top 3 again next year.

The women's 4x400m relay team finished 14 in the heats. They did not make it to the championships of America final, but I believe they will run tomorrow also.
14 Georgetown 3:40.35 London Finley, Tenille Stoudenmire, Amanda Kimbers (55.06), Deidra Sanders (54.03) AM 2

In the HS girls DMR Blacksburg set a new Penn Relay record. Anchoring this team was Joanna Stevens, one of best recruits for next year. Her twin led off the relay.

Great run by the men's DMR today. Third place behind Oregon (track city) and Nova. Bumbi ran the fastest mile split; Toby Ulm had the 4th fastest 400m split. Freshman Sorenson ran a good lead off leg (7th fastest), and O'Connor ran a sub-1:50 800m, 3rd fastest 800m.

It looks like the same for the men in the SMR. This seems strange, because we now have some good sprinters and hurdlers, but the only sprint/hurdle events we have participated in are the 4x100m relays.
