I thought there was a tread on this already but I couldn't find it. I just wanted to get an idea of his timeline and the deadlines for the NBA draft. It sounds like a lot of kids are entering the draft, some with agents and some without, but we haven't heard anything on Greg.
When can we expect to hear one way or the other. Additionally, what are his deadlines.
I would expect him to enter the draft to get in some practice with the teams and showcase his stuff even if he plans to return but I guess its always possible that he skips everything and comes back. Maybe that's just wishful thinking....

April 26th is the date to enter, June 15th is the date to withdraw.
If he enters, he is gone. You don't test the waters to find out you are top 15 and then come back. You do this if you are a junior or if you find out you are a borderline first rounder.

Unless you are Roy Hibbert of course. And I seem to remember some others that were in a similar range as Greg come back. I don't think its all over if he enters but maybe you are correct, might be very slim.

Yeah, he's not a guy that needs to test the waters. He knows pretty much where he'd go right now, so if he declares, he's probably gone.
That said, I think he's coming back

Actually, the deadline for NCAA players to withdraw their names is May 8 this year. It's been discussed before, but why there is such an early deadline for college players, while international players get until June 14, I do not know. April 25-May 8 does not seem like a ton of time to make a significant life choice, even if you can work out for NBA teams during that window. What it does do, however, is shorten some of the suspense (read: trepidation) with Greg's decision. We'll know his future for sure by May 8. CHH, I see what you're saying, but maybe, just maybe, Greg isn't like most people. Check this site out for all the early entrants in the draft: www.nbadraft.net/2010earlyentry

Yea I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but GM is gone. Those in the program know it and it will come out soon, but yea he is out. For a somewhat comprehensive list of the deadlines that are in place, go here: www.nbadraft.net/2010earlyentryThey actually moved the withdrawal date up for collegiate players so testing the waters only affords you to the opportunity to briefly see what is going on. Since a player "testing" is presumed to be in school as well, he theoretically cant really get the ball rolling until after the semester (May in most cases) and he would have to decide whether to stay in by May 8. Columbia-that June deadline was the old way and now they have it in place for the International players, but the college guys must officially decide by May 8.

I think GM is definitely jumping this year. He had a great year stats-wise, All-American, BE First Team...its just the smart thing to do.
I look forward to the meltdown on the Board that will follow with the "Good Luck Greg!" proponents mixing with the "he's selfish! we could've been a contender" nutsos, followed by Strummer questioning why we give these guys scholarships if they don't stay all 4 years.

JTIII was on Mike and Mike this morning and said no decision has been made but one way or the other a decision will announced in the next few days.

I figure he is gone, but there's reasons for declaring even if you are coming back. If you are high enough, that gets you invited to workouts and gets you a more comprehensive breakdown of what you need to work on.

If he does go pro I would completely understand the move and would wish him well. Sucks for the fans though. I feel like this is the 2nd time in 5 years we were so close to being a # 1 caliber team with legit shot (favorites even) to win it all... It would be hard to be that close to a dominate team once again.

Tho I will keep my sources anonymous. It is not a secret to those in the program, hell even the players know, but expect something in the next week or two when the kids get back from Easter break. As much potential as the team has next year with him, you cant blame him for getting his money especially considering he is a top ten lock and comes from the background in which he does where money is not readily available...

Let's keep the "I know because I'm an insider or I know one really well" speculation off the board please. Feel free to communicate that by email to your heart's content.

Not necessarily bad news if true - actually great news for Greg, no? And it's not like fans don't expect it to happen (even though in my personal opinion it's not a sure thing.) Greg is going home to NOLA to talk things over with those close to him - we'll know soon. I'm sure some people will melt down if he goes, but I don't expect it to be too apocalyptic. We're still going to be good next season, either way.

Thanks for the correction(s). I thought that was in the works as it helps the NBA teams and the college coaches in planning.

I will be very happy for him and completely understand if that is indeed his choice. It's hard to put aside the "what could have beens" though. I still think about how sick our team would have been had Jeff stayed.
