Was just looking at our schedule and noticed how odd our February schedule has been.
From 2/6 through 3/1, we only play four games. That's a stretch of 24 days. Twice during that time, we had an entire week off. While it's nice to have the rest, I have to think that it would have been better to have these young guys playing games more often.
I suppose that this stuff is out of our hands - that the league just hands us the conference schedule. But wouldn't it have been better if T3 had squeezed in a decent non-con during at least one of these full weeks off, if only to get some run and work on things?

It would have been better -- if it would have been possible on short notice (meaning since April when T3 took over). Scheduling a decent game in mid-conference season is not easy.

Not a bad idea... although I'm glad we didn't line up a team like the Arkansas-Monticello Boll Weevils like Rutgers did last night. Or like when Rice played Rockhurst University (a fine Jesuit Institution actually) last week.
But I do agree... you've got to think we could have penciled in a decent non-conf team with enough notice once we saw the big gaps in the schedule... Oh well, maybe next year.

I think the culprit here might be the fact that we played in the Rainbow Classic Tournament, and that it wasn't an "exempt" tournament or whatever for us--meaning those three games counted as...three games in our max. total of 27, rather than counting as 1 like some teams who play in preseason tourneys.
That means 3 out of the 11 non-conference games we could play this year were crammed into 4 days between December 20 and 23. Further, by some other random "glitch", the three games we played just prior to the Rainbow Classic--Penn State, Illinois, and San Jose State, were played over six days between Dec. 5 and 11.
Normally, December is where we see these long gaps between games--usually one during exams and one around Christmas/New Year's area.
If you look back at the past few years' schedules, you do usually see a non-conference opponent in the middle of Big East play (home games vs. UNLV, UCLA, and Duke for instance). The one year similar to this one schedule wise was 2001-2002, b/c the non-conference game against UCLA was in late December, as was the one against UVA. We had two separate week-long gaps in the BE schedule, they just weren't in as close proximity as this year.
I think the problem will correct itself next year.

One thing on the classic -- I was emailing with Ken Pomeroy (whilst stamping "basketball nerd" on my forehead) and he informed me that it was an exempt event, but we didn't take advantage of it for some reason or another. (a guess? timing or depth). I do not know if that we means we can enter more than 2 in a 4 year period now or not.

I'm guessing we didn't take advantage of it because JTIII didn't have enough time to schedule more games.
