Why did we not offer the first time? What has changed since then that we would be more interested? It seems like he plays Hollis's position on the team and doesn't Bowen and Goodman provide more of the same in the future.
I am sure he is a quality player and person, but I do not see how he fits on a team that needs 4s and 5s. That said, if we lose out on the battles for the two big men we are pursuing right now, then I can see this making more sense. If he can play defense all the better!

I really wouldn't mind taking him, the one position where we don't have real depth is the SF. Austin is really a 2 so he shouldn't be playing SF. Hollis is our 3 but he is good enough that he could possibly leave before his senior season. Goodman is a spot up shooter right now, something that even he admits and has a lot to work on if he wants minutes.
A player that can play the 2/3/4 sounds great and if we end up some how losing out on Moses then I will take him.

He is talking about Aaron Bowen, a 2010 recruit who plays SF that committed to the Hoyas two weeks ago.

I really don't know much about the kid save from the fact that he was fairly well regarded coming into UVA. A little concerned that he couldn't earn more minutes on a UVA squad that certainly didn't have that much talent. Might say something about his willingness to compete on defense. Or maybe it just wasn't a good fit. Is he a good athlete? I love the idea of a 6'8" SF who can mix it up at other positions. Sounds very WVU'ish, and that ain't a bad thing. But only if he gets after it and isn't soft. I'm sure JTIII will evaluate given Tristan is clearly interested in becoming a Hoya. We'll see how it pans out.

I wouldn't call him soft, but he ain't a WVU type of grinder. They have a similar player, imo, in John Flowers, who the Hoyas also recruited.

I'm not sure how strong the "we had the opportunity to offer him before and didn't" argument holds up here. At the time, we were in play for a number of arguably more highly regarded wing players in the Classes of 2009 and 2010. We struck out with all of them, and ended up with Jerelle Benimon and Vee Sanford. My guess is we would have taken Spurlock over both of them, the staff just didn't think we'd keep coming up on the short end of the stick.

i am the first to admit i know little to nothing about spurlock other then a watching a few youtube clips. that said, it seems to me that we would defintely benefit from having another athletic wing player. In truth, we only have Hollis that fits the mold. When it came to guarding guys like Jones, Hayward, Butler, Hamilton....our options were always so limited. Spurlock would be a nice get.

Come on, let's get with it and make this thread competitive with the Moses thread. Only 32 more pages; let's see if we can get there by next week.

If he is not a WVU type grinder on the class than no thanks.

right. Exactly tony. Can't say it was lack of trying; just could close the deal.

I'd be for this transfer if for no other reason than making practices and team scrimmages more challenging for the starters.

I don't think he'd wanna come and sit or just be a practice player. He's good enuff to get minutes over JB and HS, but they have time in the system and he doesn't. I'm not sure if the staff is interested, but there are a ton of cats transferring. Ray Shipman leaving Florida, Landesburg going pro. Tommy Griffin turning pro (head scratcher), etc. In fact, I'm hearing OU losing three guys.

At least we'd have a decent practice player to challenge the starters for a year. I think having a few walk-ons (and their athletic equivalents) hurt the productivity of our practices this year.

You'd have to hope Rakeem Xmas won't want to be walking into a major project in Norman.

Mason Griffin, Warren and almost certainly Tiny Gallon...who TMZ has reported was given 3 grand this past year from a financial adviser.
Oh, and Ray Willis just transferred out.
Yeah, they're a mess.
