Speaking to some fellow hoya fans today, i have heard the argument that Ohio was grossly underseeded and there was no way that was a 14 seed we played yesterday. What do you guys make of this? I cant say I agree.

I appreciate the thought, but no. You give any tournament team wide open looks and let them get comfortable and confident, you're in huge trouble. Doesn't make the opponent great, even if they played great last night.

I don't think they were underseeded. They were below .500 in a mid-major conference that occassionally gets an 11 or 12 seed. That being said, they blew out the regular season MAC champ in their conference tourney, and are led by a former Third Team all Big-Ten player. I do think they are better than the other #14s, but as a result of underachieving during the season, they were seeded correctly. Clearly playing their best ball of the season at the right time.
That being said, if we were swapped with Nova, I am not sure we beat Robert Morris the way we defended yesterday, and I am fairly certain we would have been in a dogfight w Sam Houston St.

They're a legit 14 seed that played one game above the level that the number indicates, which happens a lot in the tournament. Mason played 4 games waaaay above the level of an 11, but they were appropriately seeded.
It didn't help that we played ourselves up to a 3 seed with good defense in the BET and then found ourselves in a situation where we had no answer to their offensive scheme.
If you re-did the seeds after the tourney, Mason would have been a 3-4 and Florida a 1 after 2006. Davidson would also have been a 2-3 after 2008. After this tournament we would be a 7-10. Let's see where Ohio winds up. You can never seed teams based on how they're going to play, though.

I think OU could have been a 9 10 skill wise but the 7-9 MAC record puts them closer to a 13, 14. I think they can beat UT though .

You can always "re-seed" the field after the games are played. But that is a different issue. It's called hind-sight or retrospect. Their seed seems to have been appropriate.

I thought their seed was appropriate. It was their level of play yesterday that was well above that of a typical 14 and the level of ours well below that of a typical 3 (especially on D) that mattered.

I think tomorrow will show OU deserved a higher seed...

I think Hoyas were OVERseeded more then Ohio U was underseeded.
The effort yesterday was worthy of an NIT team.

what seed do you think we deserved? i guess if we were really a 5 and ohio were really a 12 then it would have been the same matchup anyway.

This team didn't like being "disrespected" and responded. When you lose 10 games out of 33 no matter how tough your schedule is--you aren't worthy of a top 4 seed. Contending teams find ways to win-no matter the level of opponent and Hoyas didn't do that this year.

On the same night in 2007 that we won the Big East Tournament, Miami (OH) won the MAC Tournament as the 4 seed on a buzzer beater--I remembered this team b/c I saw the highlights about 10 times in Cafe 31. They were 15-14 going into the tournament, 10-6 in conference...so 18-14 going into the NCAA's. They also got a 14 seed, and lost 58-56 to the Oregon team that went to the Elite Eight.

Who cares if they were underseeded? I don't think Georgetown would have beat a 16 given the way they played defense last night.

I just think OU is a much better club than most on these boards give credit for. By the same vein, we are nowhere near as bad as most think. Just played a GOOD team. I think they beat UT tomorrow.

You know what, I hope they do like Cleveland State and Mouse Mcfadden. And I hope JTIII does what the general did that year; make the team practice through the national title game. They won it all the next year.

No chance. You gotta be kidding me. Ohio if anything got a better seed than they deserved. Ohio was 7-9 in the MAC. Below .500 in a 1 bid mid major conference. Ohio is the same team that lost to above 200 rpi Ball State and Eastern Michigan. Ohio is the same school that lost to 15 seed Robert Morris. Ohio is the same school that barely broke triple digits on the rpi (95). Ohio is the same club that until last week was barely a .500 ballclub. Ohio is the same club that hadn't beaten a team in the rpi top 75. What part of their resume screamed "i deserve to be better than a 14 seed". Absolutely nothing. This isn't to say that they didn't play well against us (they did) but let's face it, Ohio was nothing more than a weak 14 seed.
