i will say that one of the trademarks of msg is that they dim the lights save for the court and i've never seen that at any other arena. maybe that's messing with austin's head, i'm not sure. The Capital Centre used to do the same. It's a trademark of older arenas to give the action on the floor center stage as if it was a theater. Nowadays the pro arenas want to keep attention in the stands and outside, where people can spend more money. Edit: I also believe the University of Dayton arena does this as well, if I'm remembering correctly from the 2006 NCAAs.

Random question:
What are sight lines?
Someone was saying that Austin hasn't been shooting well because of the sight lines at MSG.

In this context, it's referred (probably) to the backgrounds behind the rim and backboard, which would affect your depth perception when shooting.

Random question: What are sight lines? Someone was saying that Austin hasn't been shooting well because of the sight lines at MSG. Basically, shooting in different arenas is different based on the setup of the arena. Your sense of depth differs depending on how far back the seats go (Domes tend to have different sight lines than arenas), and the lighting behind the sights (dimmed or regular). And a difference in depth perception can throw off shooting. A good example is McDonough v. Verizon. There's a wall about 10 feet behind the hoop in McD, which helps with depth perception, whereas at Verizon, there's two sections worth of seats, which makes it harder to perceive the depth. It's something you adjust to as you spend more time shooting there, but it can throw shooting off when its new/different from what they are used to.

I did a little study a couple of years ago, and there was no appreciable difference between the Hoyas' shooting in home and road games. It wasn't perfect, but it was intended to evaluate the whole "it's harder to shoot in pro arenas" argument.

Yeah, I don't think it effects college teams, since they usually have time to adjust to the different depths.

I don't think JV will get reduced run simply because we're playing Marquette. After all, he had 12 points on 6-9 shooting in 27 minutes in the first game. However, his minutes do seem to be down over the past few games as JT3 changes around his lineups.

Hoyas mantra: either 1. We play today.... we win today or 2. Simply.. COME GET SOME

JV may be particularly gassed with the back-to-back-to-backs, JTIII trying to keep some energy for him when we get to Saturday.

How old is JV? Like 21 or something? He will be fine...

A little JT3 shouting and pointing was all it took. Man, did I love that! While I love that JTIII usually has a calm and steady demeanor, it's wonderful to see him insist, even to the point of shouting, that the players stick to the gameplan. That got me fired up at home! When he gets a bit agitated, it takes the emotional pressure off of the players to do the same, helping them to keep their heads. Of course, if he did this all the time, that wouldn't work (the kids would begin to adopt that demeanor). I do think he needs to show it a bit more often, though, and yesterday's blip on the JT III EKG was perfect.

When a normally mild mannered/controlled guy like JT3 really DOES go off, it makes a much bigger, stronger and more effective impression than guys who are constantly doing that. I guess both can work, but I like our calm, cool and collected guy best!
We are so darn lucky to have JT3 as our Head Coach.

I am certain it does not work that way but we kicked the #1 seeded home team out - we should be wearing the home unis rest of the way. 99% certain they go to the higher actual seed in the game.
off to msg in 20 minutes, starting to dig the commute!

Some good points in the preceding pages. Based on the last game, we need to trust in our switches on man defense (doubling the dribbler led to too many open 3s because the trailing defender didn't recover in time) and have Greg keep it high on the blocks (there were too many turnovers from swipes by weak-side help). If Greg can pivot towards the middle without dribbling and the others move towards the basket from the vacated weak side, he should be able to rack up the assists on some easy layups; if they rotate, a three should be open. His length should provide both the opening and the vision over the defenders.

I'm with you on this (though, sadly, not in NYC, myself) -- make it loud so they can make us proud!

Call me crazy, but I think it is better to have a coach who whines that it is a HUGE advantage for a team to NOT have a double-bye, and then after the game, repeats that same mantra. IT really inspires confidence. If only Syracuse came in 8th place in the BIG East, none of their problems would have happened. :Sad face:

...aaaand which is the lowest-seeded team remaining? It's confusing cause in my world "high" and sometimes even "seeds" are good things, "high seeds" should not be mailed from Amsterdam to US addresses, but I digress
