They've both nihilists, Lebowski!
Sen. Jim Bunning (R-KY) has single-handedly caused 2000 DOT workers to be furloughed, constructions sites that need those workers to function shut down, and Medicare reimbursements to doctors to drop 20%, all because he opposes temporarily extending unemployment benefits in the middle of a recession. This is part of a bill the Republicans have already agreed to support.
As someone who's been unemployed 6 months and desperately wants to work, Sen. Bunning can suck my balls.

While it's ludicrous, there's apparently some folks that want to remove Bunning from baseball's HOF for this.

Harry Reid should get on his knees too, since he could pretty much put a stop to this anytime he wanted to.
You don't need unanimous consent to get this passed.
Perhaps I am overestimating the Majority Leader though. It's entirely possible he doesn't know that.
Bunning also has offered a very simple solution. I really don't see why this can't be paid for out of the stimulus bill. What, like the hundreds of billions of dollars left in that slush fund are being well spent in other places?

I have a simple solution too - I don't see why we don't pay for it out of Kentucky's highway funds.
BTW, Bunning voted against PAYGO.

Maybe that is a good solution (maybe not), but I'm willing to bet Bunning has voted for literally hundreds of increases in spending that aren't funded from somewhere else in the budget.
His "stand" now seems... hmm... a little targeted?

As someone who's been unemployed 6 months and desperately wants to work, Sen. Bunning can suck my balls. Senator Bunning has not been unemployed for 6 months, and even if he had been, why would that make him want to suck your balls? Be more constructive with your criticism, please.

Hey, you want to be Editeded at Bunning or call him a hypocrite, I'm not stopping anyone. All I'm saying is that Harry Reid is playing games with furloughed workers, shut down construction sites, Medicare reimbursements and shiftless layabouts like bando ( ) just as much as Bunning is. He's got two very easy solutions and -- for political ends -- he is availing himself of neither of them. (I hope you know I'm kidding, bando) You are Majority Leader, Mr. Reid. How about you -- you know -- lead for once instead of whining to anyone with a camera and a microphone? You are dead on about one thing you said the other day, TC. Nancy Pelosi would not stand for this kind of thing at all. Reid is a wuss of the highest order. BTW, bubbrubb, excellent grammar police work. ;D

Bunning has also placed a hold on all presidential nominations. There's no question that objection to unanimous consent motions is driving the unemployment benefits issue. Reid's mistake there is in believing that anything could get through that chamber without a process jockey standing in the way.
Bunning makes Mackey Sasser look like a straight shooter. The Senate increasingly resembles an ongoing hostage situation.

In 2003, Bunning was all for unemployment extensions that weren't paid for. ( Link)

A Mackey Sasser reference! Awesome! Did he make his way westward after his stint with the Metropolitans? Back in those days, we had McCarver and Kiner calling the awkward Mets games in which Sasser played.

Back in those days, we had McCarver and Kiner calling the awkward Mets games in which Sasser played. I'm still unsure why McCarver got the promotion to national while Kiner stayed local. I guess you can only fail up in broadcasting. Sasser was the catcher with the hitch in his throwing motion, right?

That's correct, Bando. He ultimately became a BP pitcher for a community college, and the problem arose again. Apparently he no longer experiences difficulty with it, which is good news.
My recollection is that the Mets then tried to put him in the field but problems arose whenever he could not catch the 3rd out on the fly.

Nah, he never was a Padre, but I was always a big fan of that type of catcher, and then the throwing thing... Just a fun guy to remember.
