no getting the ball to the middle is not the key. Monroe can't pass out of the middle of the zone his reactions and reads are too slow for some unexplainable reason. attack from the baseline below the basket to monroe. will move the zone down and allow for easier penetration and short little jump shots. it where most zones are vulnerable it just requires excellent execution to make the first pass. Great, except (1)We don't have anyone who can shoot over their size from the baseline like Harangody, nor are we particularly good at attacking from the baseline; (2)The "short little jump shot" is not exactly our strength, with the exception of Austin to some extent. Louisville and Pitt both beat SU by getting into the middle, then dumping down or kicking back out. I think our personnel has a better chance with that plan .

I think you are right, and I think that is why Syracuse is the worst possible matchup for us. It stinks because of who it is and the fact that we could have to play them 4 times!
IMO, the only way we win tomorrow is if we hit our 3s. We wont play the strategy ND did. Monroe will go to the middle of the zone exactly how Syracuse wants it. We are just going to have to make our open 3 looks. It has worked in the past.

I don't think Monroe in the middle is necessarily a bad thing - IF he can hit a couple of shots from there and pull out the zone, THEN we can have guys flash the baseline, and Greg is tall enough to pass over the zone . But you are right, we won't beat Syracuse this year without shooting well from the perimeter - not only is that one of the open areas, it also helps open up the zone. I think we get this done tomorrow, with smart offense and good D on Rautins to force them inside in the halfcourt, where they can be forced into turnovers.

Monroe has a problem passing out of the middle . He can be very deliberate and tends to telegraph his pass, which is a killer against these guys. His shooting % has to be about 25% or less from the same spot. If he makes the first one we'll se three or four more misses. Id like tosee freeman get in there and attack the basket. in any case Syracuse does an exceptional job of making slight adjustments to the zone if you are having success which is why we need multiple options. Unfortunately making adjustments is not always strong suit of this team or the staff. Sometimes they have been able to make some very good in-game adjustments, but sometimes they keep going to the same things.

I'm still optimistic Hit 8 threes run the ball and push for easy baskets and keep turnovers under 10 we'll be fine. i really confident

POINT OF OBSERVATION i believe the syracuse were seeing the last few games is NOT the cuse we played they are not at the same level uconn ville etc etc just saying adn i HOPE thats true REAL true we will need our A GAME to beat them and can do it if they show up like they been playing people are saying wes johnson aint himself after his hard fall WE WILL SEE GO HOYAS BEAT CUSE.. top four looking real tough top eight AT LEAST TO NOT PLAY ON TUES PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEE I agree completely. Syracuse right now isn't playing as well as they were last time we played. Maybe the loss to Louisville woke them up, but lately they haven't been playing on the same level they did against us. Just something to think about. Very true on both of these posts. It's always interesting to see how teams respond to an unexpected loss and that's going to be especially true tonight. Going to be a fun one. I hope.

bad loss=big win. Despite what appears to be the opposite. THis hoyas team has been remarkably consistent. They're bad the same way in the same situations and have big games in the same way in the same situations. After bad losses we have big wins. So I think we win tonight.
The lucky thing is going the rest of the way we don't have the alternating games of good teams and bad teams, so I expect a lot more consistency.
Stop your belly aching you pansies! This is Georgetown Syracuse! We're going kick the out of them. I like that the students are getting up for this game saw 2 groups of students selling anti cuse t- shirts.
I think we need to take a page out of the teams that beat and pushed cuse to the brink. Uconn had a lot of success penetrating against the zone and screening the top of the zone. We need to do those 2 things. Greg needs to be strong with the ball and force the refs to call fouls. I think it hurt us against rutgers that they called the game like an old school big east game aka no fouls. It'd be nice if the Refs call the game a little tighter on Syracuse for us.
We have never lost at home to syracuse since JTIII got here. Don't let this streak end. Defend our house.

While I want to agree with you, what's gnawing at me is the fact that if this team wins tonight, it's only going to further reinforce the idea that they can just flip a switch and turn it up a notch for the really big games. The lucky thing is going the rest of the way we don't have the alternating games of good teams and bad teams, so I expect a lot more consistency. Other than March 18th and March 20th you mean? Or are we hoping to play our way down to an 8-seed just to avoid that particular problem?

I think the NCAA is a whole different beast than the regular season. Everyone knows it's win or go home. and We're not likely to play a bad team in the second round. Just the first round.

Seems like Monroe and Vaughn are really good at finding each other in the interior. Can the two-man game they run sometimes be used to exploit the zone? Maybe Vaughn on the baseline back up to Monroe or vice versa?

Love how everyone has jumped on the Chris wright is a bellwether band wagon for this game. Every talking head is going to be bringing this up the rest of the year. I'm not saying it's not true, it's just funny that i've seen Dick Vitale Tweet it so I think it's officially jumped the shark.
