I think III still has a learning curve when it comes to building a roster. Great points b52 & the_way. I think the concept of "building the roster" is exactly right. And with all the variables involved in high school and college players, it stands to reason that building an effective roster is just as much an art as a science. It also stands to reason that it gets better with coaching & recruiting experience.

Uh, oh, the dreaded HoyaSouth has resurfaced. Just in time to tell us how bad we are. Did we already lose the game? Is it on time delay like the Olympics?

I thought JT3 did a masterful job of yo-yoing Monroe and Chris on offense/defense throughout game. However his placing Wright on Routins after Wright got 2 quick fouls was not good. It meant Chris had to chase Routins all over the court and it was inevitable he would get tagged with his fourth foul trying to run through a screen. After Greg saved ball with the Hoyas last timeout I was a little let down that I saw no set play after the set in bound play under basket was covered. Love 3 but he has got to give Sims and Vee some PT the rest of the way in BE so that they can contribute in NCAA.

This BIGGEST blunder by coach today was not telling the players to foul at the end of the game when there was a 6-second differential between the shot clock and game clock.
Other than that I thought he did a great job. We got open looks but we just couldn't buy a bucket today. Missed FT are on our players.

III has been a very good recruiter over the years, but the one thing I have noticed since JWall, JGreen, and Hibbert have left is that late in games we do not have an identity nor a go to guy. At Rutgers III should have called a TO as soon as Austin brought the ball past midcourt but failed to do so. The result was Chris missing ANOTHER 3 in February. Tonight, we ill-prepared out players so that down the stretch when Greg was dominating the post, they decided that it wasn't worth the risk of a turnover and shot ANOTHER 3, and (shock) missed. The result, ANOTHER home BE loss.
My personal opinion is that III can recruit with the best, especially given the facilities he has, but is a poor game manager and simply does not prepare his players for high pressure situations. I don't know the solution to this, but III has to get more consistency out of everyone, otherwise we are going to go 2-4 to finish the BE and then be out before the semis of the BET and then done maybe even on the first weekend of the tournament.
DISCLAIMER: I have watched either in person or on TV every game in the past 4/5 years and these are not new observations for me. Rather, I believe III can win us a national championship, but not unless he finds a way to focus himself and ALL of the players for more than a few minutes a game. We CANNOT depend solely on Greg, Austin, and occasionally Chris or Jason in March. The great teams ALWAYS show up, right now we aren't even close to that.

I question jt3 strategy not fouling at the end also. You always have to extend the game. Plus, we didn't have any timeouts. So we had to grab the rebound with 6 sec and go the length of the court. Also on the 3 clark took, coach should have set up a play for monroe or freeman. At the end of games we seem like we freelance to much.

It's debatable. Going to Greg is probably a slightly better play but Clark had just hit his last shot and is a solid outside shooter. If we're focusing on the last 10 seconds of the game, we're looking in the wrong place to find problems in this one.
And this talk of 2-4 the rest of the way, etc..... we barely lost to the 2nd or 3rd best team in the country after a horrific defensive showing in the first coupled with poor shooting and we lost by 4. Get a grip.

tas, this team is only 8-6 in the conference. they have two very tough road games left and have lost to 2 or 3 teams worse than ND or cinncy. why is 2-4 so unrealistic?

Rutgers was a bad loss.
I wouldn't say ND is better than USF. And didn't USF just beat Cincy? I also wouldn't say that ND is better than ODU. RPI-wise, ODU is better than both ND and Cincy. So, bad loss to Rutgers is indicative of what? Also, I'm of the mindset that Georgetown beats Rutgers 9 out of 10 times and it's an aberration. I think we have a better chance of winning the next 4 straight than losing them by quite a bit.
