It's potluck any way you look at it, except with a higher probability of success for the McDs. Basically, there's a lot of talent in a small pool of players. Many will succeed, while some will be over-hyped and will not star at the next level. Obviously, a lot of good players will be left out. Finding the gems over the over-hyped is the real talent. Exactly. I'm thrilled Starks and Lubick are coming here and I think they're going to be great additions. That opinion isn't affected by whether or not they play in the McD's game. However, getting that kind of spotlight is always good for the program, and future recruiting. To say "I'd rather have Jon Wallace over a McDonald's AA any day" is missing the point. It's not like we can't have both.

I agree with that.
However, I think the point people are trying to make, KC, is that Starks and Lubick are mickey d's type players, just without the distinction.

However, some people are saying screw the McD's AA kids, I want another Jon Wallace, another Tyler Crawford, etc.

Which would be pure folly.
You can't have the Jerrelle Bennimon's and the Vee Sanford's without the Chris Wright's, Greg Monroe's and Austin Freeman's. Because if that's the case, you turn into St. John's.
You have to have a balance.

What I'm saying is don't believe the hype, look at players and try to find the gems.

Marshall plays right down the street from us, and I'll go over to O'Connell for the big games - and I can honestly say I have never seen a game where he has been the best player on the floor. And many times in the bigger matchups he hasn't even been one of the two or three best players on the floor. So yeah, I think having him on this roster is pretty much a joke. Dunno - maybe he plays better in the summer camps in front of the scouts and gurus He was a top five player in his class as a frosh and a top ten player in his class as a soph. Or vice versa. Anyway its a bad sign when he's barely, in many people's estimations, a top 50 player in his class now that he's a senior. It suggests he has peaked. I give credit to RDF for calling this one. He told me numerous times over the years that Marshall is a good player but that his lack of speed and athleticism woud be his undoing as other guards in his class physically mature and surpass him. Well, this has come to pass. Marshall may well end up being a very good college player but he no longer seems destined to be the star that people felt he would be a couple of years ago. Time of course will tell. Good luck to him...and his pops.

His dad is so funny. Defending his boy all over the internet. I get wanting to defend your kid, but seriously why would you waste your time defending him all over the internet. So amusing.
