The big 3 have played really well, but I believe julian's improvement has been the story of the season. His toughness, stick-to-it-ness and aggressive play in the paint has been a pure pleasure to watch. Julian certainly could have played for big john.
At this point, I think julian is a top 10 2nd round pick. Keep up the hard word JV, maybe we can move up to the lower quarter of the first round where the good teams select.

sixer- It seems that coach takes vaughn out alot during the game. It seems that he has significantly less minutes than the rest of the starters. Does he have a bad motor? Is this done intentionally? Maybe im not accurate, it just seems that he pl;ay slike 10 less game minutes than the rest of the starters.
YOur point though is well taken, hes gotten alot better and has a great attitude.

Julian's ascent in bringing his game up to this level really does show that JTIII doesn't kid when he says we make our big men into millionaires. I'm not saying that JV couldn't have done so at FSU, but it really should be a good lesson for any big men considering coming to Gtown. Assuming JV does get drafted after the 2011 season (and I think he will), we will have gotten every single one of our rotation big men into the NBA. Now, I don't think this should be the sole indicator for someone picking a school, but it has to help.

Julian's play on the break off the long outlet pass from Monroe was sick. He has some game on offense. "The Big Cat" Julian Vaughn must hit the boards with aggression and remain out of foul trouble. It is essential that Vaughn be available during the last ten minutes of close games to allow Monroe to make plays on the perimeter.

I don't really have a problem with JV's minutes. The minutes he gives us are high energy minutes on both ends and, considering his minutes over the past 2 seasons, are a huge ramp-up. If it keeps him fresh for March, I'd say job well done. Also, sitting him for stretches gets some other guys like Benimon important minutes that will also (hopefully) pay dividends in the NCAAs.

Without JV this year, we have at least 2-3 more losses. I can't say enough how impressed I am with his revamped game - it's not often you see a big guy that fancied himself more of a wing/perimeter guy reinvent himself seamlessly as an effective low post banger. He has bought into the system and it is paying off in spades - and is there a big guy in the big east with better touch around the basket than JV? Can't wait to see his continuing development - if history is any indication guys that show that willingness/ability to improve continue to do so throughout their college career.

Unbelievable progression this year for JV. I like that JTIII limits his minutes a bit, because he plays so aggressively that fouls could be more of a problem if he played more minutes. Haven't seen a Hoya want to dunk so much since Jahidi!

Vaughn makes our starting five nasty, perhaps one of the best starting fives in the whole counrty. This team... is Voltron.

I was wondering if Julian's limited minutes have anything to do with the health issue that brought him back to the DC area from Florida (in addtion to the family health issue). I am not trying to start any speculation, but just curious as to whether JV's limited minutes have something to do with stamina.

Julian has made great effort, great progress, and seems to be enjoying himself. Golly, I hope he comes back.

As someone above mentioned, Julian's ability to finish around the rim is incredible. He, and perhaps Freeman, are our best guys around the rim in terms of being able to can the difficult 3 or 4 foot shot. The fast break move against Providence where he caught the ball at the free throw line, threw a fake drop step, and then wheeled back around for the layup was incredible. Incredible control and mobility for a big man. He has obviously put in work...and gotten coaching to make him a great player.

I presume you are talking about next year. JV has made tremendous strides this year, but absolutely no way he gets drafted this spring, much less in the first round. But if he improves this much again over the summer, I could see him as a backup in The League - which I would never have even considered 12 monthes ago.

Agreed. One more year and there could definitely be NBA on his resume.

?? as in What! Based on the comments it sounds like many of you think JV is a scrub who is coming out. The kid played for DC Assult and went to Oak Hill Academy. He had offers from high D1 schools. His position was always power forward and he never played on the outside. As with many players, the jump occurs in year two. For Vaughn, this is year two on the hilltop. Wright said it best when he noted that Vaughn is playing like the kid we remember from our AAU days...

Based on what I see of Julian this season. He has made some huge strides, but his game is still way too rough to play in the NBA. He has games where he gets far fewer boards than he should, and he still has a limited offensive game. He is a solid player and a good contributor, but no way he is ready for the NBA - yet.

Ok but he didn't do much at FSU( hampered by health issues) and while he showed some glimmers last year he definitely didn't look poised to play as well as he has this year. Not saying it was impossible to see this coming, but he's clearly been a surprise.
