www.hammerandrails.com/2010/2/8/1300693/defend-that-digger-the-overratedFrom the blog, linked above... " The Hoyas are an up and down team. They have some great wins over Villanova and Duke, but they also have been blown out in games against South Florida and Syracuse. Georgetown is a dangerous team because they have balanced scoring, a nice post presence in Greg Monroe, and good guards, but they tend to have games where they don't put it all together. They haven't had a four game winning streak since the ODU loss, meaning there are doubts they can win four straight in March." I didn't see this posted anywhere else. Interesting take. As for us, I agree it is time for a win streak!

Purdue is good this year. Apparently, they're good enough to get a swollen head about it. They beat WVU so I guess I understand why they might think that way. That being said, I think WVU is better than Purdue by a fair amount and Purdue would get torched by Cuse and really have their hands full with Nova. Any Boilermaker fan that thinks they're sweet should look at their schedule and compare it to any team in the Big East and then attempt to be a little more realistic. I certainly wouldn't be scared to see Purdue on our schedule considering the quality of opponents we play every year.

Please - Big 10 teams do not impress me at all -- and are also more boring than watching paint dry. Other than Michigan St. I would relish a game with any of them in the tourney.
We didn't get blown out by USF by the way.

"If both teams have the same number of losses to similar types of teams, how then can West Virginia be ranked ahead of Purdue?"
'Cause Purdue plays in a crap conference and lost four in a row?

The difference for us come March is that it is difficult to game plan for our team, particularly in the second game of the weekend (i.e., in the round of 32 and in the Elite 8). I like our chances in those games and hope we get a good draw for the Sweet 16.

That would be the answer. Seriously who cares about Purdue except for those unfortunate enough to live in that area of Indiana? Purdue hasn't truly been relevant since the Big Dog. No one wants to see them on TV and no one wants to play for them unless they are from Big Ten territory. I would love for the Hoyas to play Purdue or any team from the Big Eleven. And I didn't know that Gtown got blown out by South Florida.

Yeah, that is what I dont understand. Why dont you just write an article about how Purdue is just as good as the Big East elite? At least there would be some logic to that. Saying the Big East is overrated accomplishes what exactly? The only thing Purdue has going for them is that they beat WVU.

Actually, they have 2 scheduled games in March, so if they lose them, then lose in the first round of their league tournament, then lost again in the first round of NCAA (NIT?), they've got a nice 4 game losing streak in March

Georgetown----SOS #1, RPI #8; 7-2 against ranked opponents including Duke, Villanova, Pittsburgh, Temple, Butler (Washington and UConn) Purdue-----------SOS #41, RPI #11 Key Wins: Tennessee, Wake, WVU, Wisc.
I think overall our schedule trumps theirs and our results are enough to validate that we are not overrated.

Sorry Boz. I wouldn't typically have taken the time to fact-check you, but it's a snow day and I had the time to do it. Also, according to Lunardi's latest Bracketology, we (as #2) would have a possible Sweet 16 showdown with #3 Purdue, so we could show them what's up: sports.espn.go.com/ncb/bracketology

It can definitely be challenging to get a grip on the objective quality of a conference given that there is only limited exposure between major BCS conferences. Until the tournament, we won't really know if the Big East, with its rough and tumble parity, is playing at a consistently higher level than say, the Big 10.
I wouldn't mind drawing Purdue in the tournament, however.
