Have a feeling we are going to get a lot of national media love after this. Unless something like Baylor beating Kansas happens, our game was really the biggest remaining game until Saturday. Would be nice and well deserved.

Don't forget about Morgantown where the crowd is on the court.

HUGE win. Love breaking that home win streak. Love beating negative-recruiting Dixon and his constant whining. That guy is unbelievable. Very good coach, but what a tool.
Great part about this win is that the team wasn't even playing its best ball - lots of stuff to improve, especially closing the lane up to stop all the easy penetration baskets by the guards, and Greg has to be stronger with the ball (ball was knocked away from him in traffic way too often). But the team is talented enough to overcome some of these faults. And each of our three stars has been picking games to really carry us, with Vaughn and Clark playing very solid ball. Imagine how good this team can if they manage to put it all together. Just love this team.
I didn't think the refs did a bad job at all (apparently, Dixon disagreed).
And, as with the 'Nova game, I agree that Welsh does a fine job.

Awesome win.
The way this team deals with end-of-the-game situations as opposed to last year's team is what I've been most impressed with all season and to close out a tough Pitt team on their homecourt deserves high praise.
Chris had his best game as a Hoya and totally agree with a previous poster about how he can be an absolute killer when he just allows the game to come to him.
I just hope that Hollis finds his shooting touch between now and tourney time.

Getting closer to February basketball. Improve the rotation and communication in the straight man, lock down with the match-up and reduce the turnovers and we are there. Such an improvement over last year on the boards generally, but need to grab the loose balls. Would be wonderful to have a sixth weapon with a Hollis breakout over the next three.
Time for a kool-aid.

Apologies if this came up elsewhere, but what was the deal with the "Monroe has 2 fouls oh wait no he doesn't" issue? Was that an announcer screw-up or did the scorer have him charged with 2--forcing him (wrongly) to the bench right when we seemed to be getting comfortable in the first half?

I was thinking the same thing. UNC is going to be the story, I bet. We'll, here is to hoping. Pitt is like 125-11 at home, and we have 2 of those wins. What a great win!

Yeah, we were talking about it, but I am pretty sure he never had the 2 fouls and the announcers screwed it up. There was never any indication online that he had 2 fouls.

We can focus on a lot of things and why the won us the game, but to me this game was won by the defense--Pitt scored ZERO points between the under 8 and under 4 timeouts. It was during that stretch that the Hoyas built a 7 point lead they'd never relinquish.

I do wish we got more production from our bench. We REALLY need someone who can come in and hit a couple of buckets. Hope VEE and Hollis get some serious minutes -- and production -- vs Rutgers on Saturday. Love Jerrelle's boarding and inside presence and confidence.

Some thoughts: - I'm with Big Dog. The defense was pretty awful, except for the rebounding, which was strong, it seemed. It seems to break down when we try to play our switching man to man with our subs on the court. I don't think it is always them in the wrong place -- I think it is that sometimes but there's also just learning what your teammate is going to do.
- For example, the two dunk sequence everyone is blaming on Henry. On the first dunk, he's actually on ball. He had good position, and Monroe actually over-helps. Pitt is an excellent passing team and took advantage. Someone else needed to rotate, not Henry. He still tried. On the second dunk, it's tough to tell whether it should have been Henry or Chris Wright. Given height, probably Henry, but he was actually matching up with a player and would have had to abandon a player on the perimeter to move back. That likely would have been the best move, but it isn't an easy read.
- Despite the D, rebounding seemed like it was good and the turnovers even better.
- Awesome three point shooting. Lucky to a certain extent, but most of those (Austin's bank excepted) were open.
- I would have called a charge on Jerelle. But the officials were pretty good.
- I never realized Dixon whined that much. He was like a drunken fan. If I were a ref, I'd toss anyone who acted like that.
- Loved Benimon's one armed rebound in the first half. On the other hand, he's making us play 4 on 5. Then again, so is Hollis to some extent.
- Whether it is because they forgot him or our great D, we shut down Ashton Gibbs, which was key.
- If Brad Wanamaker and Gilbert Brown had wanted to go anywhere else, I imagine the NCAA would have stepped in and told them they'd been slotted for Pitt since birth. Those guys are the archtype, aren't they?
- Admit it. Who thought the "Perfect Brownie Pan" was an SNL skit? How embarassing were the "hard to cut square" brownies?

"Thompson just had a better checkmate move than Dixon when he went to the matchup zone in the final minutes, which instantly led to Pitt jacking up contested jumpers and GU taking control."
If that's not out coaching I'm not sure what is?
I think pitt was fouling us constantly on the inside. We got away with one for benimon's charge( the guy was still moving but benny owered his should big time) I'm sorry my whole family was screaming at the refs all game for how much crap pitt got away with. Maybe it was just us though.

Vaughn was also huge tonight. They basically played a G or SF at PF for much of the game. Vaughn did as good a job as can be expected defending some quicker guys on the perimeter and was very good at punishing Pitt on the blocks when he got a smaller guy or Dante Taylor.

flat out this was wright's best game as a hoya. the crazy one on 3, taking the bump and score. the form and confidence in his jumper. the fearless driving, spinning layups and heads up play with the cut beating the clock. my hat's off to him and for my money, a game as good as austin's vs uconn.
