Jamie Dixon's got to be the NCAA coach of the year. It's not even close at this point

Syracuse isn't the biggest surprise in the BE. These guys are. I swear, I don't know how they are doing it. Three impressive road wins already.

Except that nobody REALLY respects Brey as a coach. I think in Dixon's case, we have all the respect in the world for what he's doing.

It has to be something in the water up in dem der hills. Sans the Pirates (baseball economics is another story) most sports teams there compete to the highest level...just straight tough.

It would be nice if they faced a similiar fate relative to ours after beating Uconn @ Uconn.

they are amazing. they shoot sub 40%, they have more TO's than assists...and still win going away. why? they punish you defensively and on the boards and they make FT'S (unlike uconn).

HoyaFanNY - sounds a lot like the Hoyas I remember watching in college from '88-'92, with perhaps a little less finishing at the FT line but a tremendous competitor who was able to more than make up for the team's deficiencies most of the time.

Except our 88-92 teams had more stars...
I liked Pitt's intensity on defense and offense. It felt like UConn was waiting for them to fade and it never happened. They outrebounded a much taller UConn and made 17 of 20 Fts. But more amazing is the difference a year has made for Gibbs and Wanamaker. So far this season, Gibbs is going through a Charles Smith-like transformation.

One of the commentators said that Dixon would take toughness over height anyday. I agree. See e.g., Perry McDonald.

So, is Wannamaker Freeman's evil twin or what?
