Listened to JT show on ESPN980 and he said somewhat strongly that he believes that GTown is not a Final Four team (and that UCONN is) because of lack of depth. But i for one think that we can have depth real soon if other players are allowed to play more... Also was funny to hear Chvotkin's last call at the end of one of JT Show's segements. LOL!
It seems that A. Freeman will soon become if not already a star. How great were the comments by Jim Calhoun? How about Vitale. JT2 was complimentary as well. But i've kinda seen this at least the last few ball games. Freeman has been playing very well and he 'gets it' i mean, he's the only one who actually dunks regularly on this team...thoughts?

Actually the only guy who dunks regularly on the team is Vaughn. And as someone who has seen every game except for the ones against Tulane and Harvard, I have to say my boy AFree has not dunked more this season than Greg or Jason (Jason had three in one gamen...I think it was against American). So far this sseason there has been only one televised game in which Free has dunked and that was against St John's (he did it twice).

I agree about Freeman. I want him taking our clutch shots this year, and I've been saying so for several games now, not just post-UConn. As for the "depth" issue and how far this team can go, I don't really understand why everyone is so hung up on depth. We only need more than 7 players to deal with three things: (1) late-game fatigue, (2) fouls, (3) injuries. The latter two are kind of hit or miss, and if either occurs, we might have to test Henry and Vee to see if they're game-ready. Number one just doesn't seem to be happening. As Hamilton so astutely pointed out, we play better in the second half. So maybe we'll have the endurance to play at peak level late in games late in the season. I think a lack of depth can be a disadvantage. But game-to-game, I don't think it's a death nail.

Fatigue hasn't been a problem yet, but we'll see if it does become one over the next two weeks, during which the squad suits up six times, or every three days, playing three road games.

Fatigue is a long term problem, but not a game to game one.
I don't think the Hoyas are Final Four-ready yet, either, but it has nothing to do with depth.
On the other hand, UConn is nowhere close. Gotta be able to score somehow in the half court.

Privately he seems to fume when the media dosn't give his son or the Gtown team/program much attention/praise. That's just his way.

I think our guys were fatigued against St. Johns in the 2nd half. That team was deep and kept throwing waves of fresh legs against us. But, then again, how many teams are really 9, 10, 11 deep?

This team has the same amount of depth if not more so than the 05-06 team. and about a player short from the 06-07 team at the end of the year. It was just about this time in 06 the PE jr finally got anytime off the bench. All of lll's teams have had limited benches. BTW that 07 team didn"t appear too tired in ot in the meadowlands. And big Johns 82 team despite popular opinion that we had waves of players going in and out was basically a 7 man roster when it mattered in the BE and tourney.

With Bennimon now the first 4 off the bench this team is legitimitly 7 deep. This kid is a JT2 throwback. He reminds me of a shorter Don Reid with a better handle and stroke. The series where he grabs defensive rebound and clears out Walker with elbow to the cheek, gets offensive rebound on other end and scores, then gets defensive rebound on other end to start fast break was classic JT2 ball. Henry coming in to give Vaughn a blow at the 5 position rather than the 4 for about 8-10 minutes will be gravy.

Fatigue is not an issue across games. There's no way that a 20-year old kid is going to play any differently on Saturday if he played 32 minutes vs. 37 minutes on Wednesday. Within a game, sure, kids might get tired. Across games, no way. Big East tournament 4 games in 4 days, maybe but I doubt it.

Don't agree that depth is not a problem. In many/most games the team can get by with a 7 man rotation. However, sickness or injury, combined with a series of uptempo games over a short period of time and the team may will feel the toll--within a game as Dhall suggests. Sims could be slotted in for a couple of minutes at discrete times in the game to give the front court a breather. The kid can only improve with experience. Ditto for Sanford. Lastly, the absence of a bench does limit some of the options for this team on defense. Although the Hoyas have never donw much full court pressure, it is not really an option with a very short bench.
