For ADD's, there were some tweets twitter.com/TheHoyaSportsMonroe on Thompson's halftime speech "He was calm….for a couple of seconds." Final score 72-69. Hoyas pullled off a monumental comeback behind the 33 points of Austin Freeman. Crowd is chanting his name as he exits Event staff is amassing by the student section in case of the fans decide to try and storm the court.

Those are good points. And if she didn't get into the specific minutia of what our players on the bench contributed and you want to call her out for that then go ahead. But why make assumptions that she doesn't know basketball? Why go there? Truth is not even Barker was known for writing about all those finer and more subtle points regarding what players contribute; the small things that help teams win games (for one thing he didn't have enough space devoted to Hoya coverage to get into such details). In fact those type of columns in which the writers point out these important details are not too common in DC newspapers when the subject is college basketball. That's the type of details saved mostly for Redskins games and in part that's done because since there are at least two columns written for every game, the columnists try to make sure they aren't writing about the same thing. Thus one columnist will do a wide overview while another will look for the details and/or a different angles. Now with that being said I agree with her view that the Hoyas need more points from their bench. When most people in the media (TV, radio, print, internet) and most fans talk about contributions from the bench as a whole they tend not to refer as much to rebounding, steals, blocks, charges taken, etc. They tend to talk about points scored. Rarely in basketball (at any level) is anyone given much attention for averaging two steals off the bench. But a player who averages ten points off the bench gets much more love. Why do you think that is? Besides if bench players get minutes and produce points to help sustain a lead or keep a team within striking distance, the head coach feels more comfortable keeping starters off the floor so they can get more of a breather. But when their is confidence lacking on the scoring front the coach tends to put his main guns back out there more quickly. So many times yesterday III seemed to take a starter out for a minute and then rushed him back to the court. This could very well catch up to the Hoyas. In fact you could argue right now its the Hoyas' primary weakness. Why shouldn't a journalist at least make mention of it?
