WOW!
OK, the story is a little familiar and a little predictable, but no less significant for that.
But the technology and the imagination/creativity on display is truly remarkable. Creating an entirely new world, beings, life forms, geography, vistas, customs -- and bringing it all to life in fabulous 3D?? ... amazing.
Yes, you have to wear glasses, like sun glasses. But after a very short time, you forget all about the glasses and just get lost in the remarkable spectacle. Have some fun. Go see this movie in 3D!

You see, I'm not seeing this because there's no way it can live up to the hype. If it's not the greatest movie ever, it's going to be a disappointment.

It's not the greatest movie ever. Now you can see it. This title is still held by Buckaroo Banzai, right?

They are free, but they aren't the same as the 80s version with the red and the blue. They are basically clear with some unnoticeable-when-wearing texture and the ones I had were hard plastic and didn't slip at all.

I agree with SirSaxa -- outta this world effects, incredibly imaginative creatures, landscapes, and an interesting plains/mountain native americans + gaia culture & theology with a paint-by-numbers storyline that made it digestible (i.e. if the plot were too original my head asplode). Thought the acting was good too, for what it was.
Definitely wanted to go fly something after seeing it.
bando, I'll definitely see it again if you want to go.

Not the flimsy kind you get in a box of Colon Blow or Lucky Charms.

Holy CGI Batman!
Plot line: eh. Visuals: just beautiful. Totally worth going to see in 3D.
And don't worry about the glasses. They're so sexy you'll want to take them home with you.

I saw it last night in 3D.
Visually stunning. The whole world it created was awesome, and some of the creatures in that world...it was like Jurassic Park, in a great way. I was even digging the story right up until one point (the word "terror" was used). And from then on, it felt to me like the most anti-human movie I'd ever seen, which was a real turn-off. I guess I just had a fundamental problem with all the things that were portrayed as good versus evil and how black-and-white much of it was.
That being said, absolutely worth seeing. I thought the visuals would fall short b/c they've been so hyped up. But I was still amazed at how great it looked.

Seldom have I seen such accurate user comments appended to a CNN article I particularly like the idea of encouraging a mass die-off, which would ultimately make the human race stronger and better able to deal with the problems of this world.

Anyone else think this movie would be well served by a mute button and some Pink Floyd?

These people need to get outside more. One can attain the same connection with nature on a simple weekend hiking/camping trip through a national park. If these morons really want to go back to a hunter/gatherer society, I'm with rosslynhoya. I'll provide the yurt and a plane ticket to Mongolia and wish these folks good luck with avoiding death for more than a week. I saw the movie this afternoon. It's everything a big Hollywood movie should be, executed to perfection. I'm glad I saw it in the theater in 3D. I'm unfamiliar with most of the cast, so I checked out the movie's IMDB page when I got home. I thought it was interesting that while most of the "Avatars" and their corresponding humans were played by Caucasian actors, most of the native Nav'i were played by African-Americans. What's the reason (which I'm guessing is innocent, for the record) for this?
