Numerous sins of omission abound, but all-in-all, it's not a terrible column.

I think the idea of a local team should be expanded to include the washington post circulation area (so that would include UVA, VT, ODU, JMU, the richmond school, etc.). those teams fight for the same recruits and have similar followings in the area (everyone supported VCU when it upset duke for example).
Other than that it is a good overview. The clear solution to the UMD Gtown problem is to find a neutral site. I cant think for the life of me where one is that is close enough for fans to go to. Maybe Gary should just suck it up and start letting Gtown in the BB&T (assuming they want to). Then maybe start a home and home. I support it because the way that program is right now, gtown would win more often then not and start regaining recruiting dominance over the area

Since when are we competing for recruits with any local school? Nobody's choosing UMCP/UVa/AU/Mason/GW, etc over Georgetown. The only local recruits we've missed out on have gone to other national powers like UNC/Duke/Texas, etc

I don't see what the problem would be with doing it at Verizon, but split the arena down the middle, so it's half-gtown and half-maryland. Then just sell it outside of either team's season ticket package...

I didnt mean that gtown is competing against local teams, but that because they havent been the dominant team in the area and nationally (like they were in the 80s/early nineties) other national powers have moved in. I think that if either UMD or Gtown were to become dominant nationally and locally they would have a lock on any recruit from the area. Sorry i wasnt clear.

Why do we need to add Maryland to the schedule. I think that they should continue play other quality teams around the country to mix it up and bring the Hoya brand to other potential recruiting grounds. The game Saturday was a great opportunity for Hollis' family to see him play. Schedule games in LA, Chicago, and Texas every year.

we've had at least 2 local schools on the schedule( as defined as those schools eligibile for the atlantic 11 in the Washington post) since JTIII started here. since he gained full control over the schedule it's been 3. I think we're fine in that regards. We also have played at local schools' gyms something maryland hasn't done.

Then just sell it outside of either team's season ticket package... Um, isn't that what we did in '93, the last time we played them in a non-tournament game? And Gary views that as a GU home game. I doubt it, but maybe if we did the same thing, but had it at Comcast, Gary would be willing to do it. That said, after we rolled them last year, I don't see them being all that excited about playing us, and I don't see much advantage in playing them either.

Gary isn't going to be the coach forever. We can revisit then, if we even want to bother.

At this point, I'd be fine with playing at Comcast first, as long as it was part of a home and home series. I'm sure Gary will think this insanely unfair, though.

I'd be fine with that if our home game was at McDonough.

I wouldn't be upset with a 3 year series. Year 1 at a neutral site - maybe Baltimore if they have a suitable gym. Year 2 at UMD. Year 3 in the MCI.

For a neutral site, I would love to play in one of the non-basketball stadiums converted into basketball. Kind of like how Texas vs Texas Tech is being played at Cowboy Stadium. Not many places in DC currently that it would work at, unless it is an early or late season game. Maybe once the 'Skins lease at FedEx runs out and they rebuild RFK with a dome
