I'm happy to see Portland getting in. That team showed a lot of heart and looks like it could give some really good teams problems come tourney time.

I'd peg us around 15 or 16, depending on how the polls treat Clemson. We should definitely move ahead of the 2-loss teams (Butler, Minnesota, Michigan), but after that, I imagine there will be great variation among individual voters' ballots.

Just putting this in here. I know it's still early but there are currently 13 BE teams in the top 50 of the RPI. The ones outside the top 50 are ND78, Providence 172 and rutgers 242. only 2 outside the top 100. other conferences: big12 4 outside top 100 5 top 50 big 10 7 outside only 2 top 50 pac 10 6 outside only 2 top 50 ACC 6 outside only 3 top 50 SEC 2 outside top 100 6 top 50

I'm a bit surprised that both CBS and Goodman both have Florida has high as they do. Sure, I expected to be ranked, but jumping from NR to 10 or 11 in one week, is a bit surprising. I'll feel a lot more confident if we get to 9-0. That Cuse game in Tampa on the 10th is looming large.

Wow, top 14 -- pretty remarkable for a team that collapsed completely and has faced zero real competition thus far.
I'm excited for the Butler/UW games, if we can see clear to winning them, we'll be a top 10 team -- clustered with a ton of other Big East teams near the top of the polls.

I don't want to quote the Wolf from Pulp Fiction so that I don't get banned, but let's remember that Georgetown ended 2007 ranked in the top ten before everything went to pieces. Not saying that the Hoyas aren't good, but it's a long season and the only poll that matters is the one at the end.

Wow, top 14 -- pretty remarkable for a team that collapsed completely and has faced zero real competition thus far. I missed this total collapse? Did this happen in the Lafayette game? or maybe in the Temple game where we were played very well by a team that is turning out to be much stronger then any of us expected. Top 14 is not at all out of the picture, esp considering we are undefeated, have had good showings in most of our games, and many of the teams ahead of us have been proven to be overrated

In any event, I'm not calling the ranking unjustified, per se , certainly the field seems wide open, only that I find it rather surprising that we so quickly regained the positive impressions of the media/coaches/whoever.

Nice to see that Butler didn't fall too far, after a couple of tough, close losses. Barring any unexpected collapses this week, the Hoyas will still be looking at a Top-10 and a Top-20 opponent in next week's neutral-site games.

Meh, I guess I am at the point where a loss to Butler at a neutral site that will probably be far more Gtown friendly would be pretty disappointing. They havent shown me much this year at all. Losing to Washington in LA is a different story.

Really quite amazing how much pollers are jumping unranked teams that beat top 10 teams this year. I respect Florida, but quite honestly what's the difference between them beating MSU on a neutral court and Gonzaga barely losing to MSU @ East Lansing. That's the issue with polls though. Glad to see that Butler is still in both top 25s considering they did not look good at all this week. Glad to see Washington closing in on the top 10 especially since they could barely beat Montana at home. Again, that's the problem with polls. Disappointed that Temple is out of the RV category after their loss to St. John's. Quite frankly if St. John's all of a sudden gets 26 votes, doesn't that mean that Temple is a good team, since I'm assuming that they jumped because of that win? Therefore, Temple should still be getting votes, but alas I'm an analyzer not a pollster.

Its a shame that the Big East is so down this year. I mean, you gotta feel sorry for a conference that's 73-12 with a mere 7 ranked teams. We'll be lucky to get 4 teams into the dance...

My thoughts as well. And throw in the crappy RPI's of the Big East teams and we may only get 3 teams to the dance. Big Ten is the best - right?

Its November people, before we go claiming supieriority over other conferences, lets wait until we get out of December. If I remember correctly, the Big East wasn't looking so hot this time last year.
Also, right now, we are overrated, there is no way we are the 14th best team in the country. That is just reality. However, most teams in the top 25 right now are overrated as well so it really doesn't matter.

However, most teams in the top 25 right now are overrated as well so it really doesn't matter. Huh? There is no Platonic ideal of a Top 25 team, it is merely the 25 best teams at that particular point- when you say "most teams" are overrated, do you then believe there are several underrated teams? I can agree that we don't have enough data to know who the best teams are, that our Hoyas have a lot to prove, and that much will change between now and March, but I am not sure how anyone can say that a team is overrated for all the same reasons.
